Five days at the APEX Rope Industries training facility in Calgary. Levels 1, 2 and 3 run in the same week, so whether you are starting from zero or logging hours toward your next level, there is a place in the room. Level 1 has no prerequisites.

The assessment at the end is carried out by an independent IRATA International Assessor, not by us. That separation is exactly why the ticket is trusted on sites worldwide.

Rope access opens work in wind, oil and gas, telecom, structural inspection and rescue. Few tickets travel across borders the way this one does.

A fall arrest system does one job. It stops the fall.

It does not end the emergency. It starts a clock.

Alberta's own Part 9 guidance puts the onset of suspension trauma at 3.5 to 10 minutes for most people. A worker hanging motionless in a harness is not stable and waiting. Blood is pooling in their legs, and the harness that saved their life is now part of the problem.

Here is the part most sites have not caught up to. Alberta OHS states plainly that for a worker suspended in the air after a fall, calling 911 and waiting for rescue services to arrive is an insufficient emergency response.

That is not an opinion about best practice. It is written into the guidance behind the Code. Section 140(2)(f) requires your written fall protection plan to contain the rescue procedures you will actually use. Section 141 requires the people expected to perform that rescue to be trained to perform it.

Which means a rescue plan is not a document. It is a person, on site, who can get to a suspended worker and bring them down.

That person is what our Rope Rescue Technician course produces. Five days in Calgary: complex anchor design, compound mechanical advantage, changeovers and load transfers, edge transitions, litter rigging, high-angle operations. Training that meets and exceeds NFPA 1006 and 2500 Technical Rope Operations requirements.

The next session runs Nov 16 to 20 in Calgary. Operator level is the prerequisite. If you don't have it yet, you still have time to get it before November.

A harness stops the fall. It does not end the emergency.

Alberta OHS Code Part 9 does not just require fall protection equipment. It requires that you have a plan to get a suspended worker down. Most sites have the harness. Fewer have the plan, and fewer again have anyone trained to execute it.

One day covers it: identifying fall hazards, selecting and setting up the right system, passive systems and administrative controls, fall arrest components, donning and inspecting a harness properly, equipment care, and the rescue requirements that come attached to all of it.
