🇨🇦 DEAD RAT FOUND IN BOWDEN, ALBERTA

A dead rat found near the central Alberta community of Bowden has prompted a response from Alberta’s Rat Control Program.

The Town of Bowden asked residents to remain alert and report any suspected rat sightings or signs of rats.

Alberta has maintained a rat-control program since 1950. The province says its “rat-free” status means there is no permanent population of rats, although individual rats and small infestations can occasionally be found and investigated.

Residents who spot a suspected rat can report it to Alberta’s Rat Control Program through 310-FARM or the province’s rat-reporting email.

🐀 Have you ever seen a rat in Alberta?

| A dead rat was found in Bowden, Alberta prompting the Town of Bowden to call in the province's Rat Patrol. Officials confirmed the animal was a single Norway rat, discovered at a residence in the central Alberta town, located about 45 kilometres south of Red Deer. A spokesperson for Alberta's Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation said the rat control team is working with the homeowner to monitor for additional rats, but no further signs have been found so far.

The town urged residents to stay alert and report any droppings or signs of rat activity to Rat Patrol Alberta. The discovery comes as Alberta continues to defend its status as the only rat-free province in Canada, a distinction it has held since establishing its rat control program in 1950. Isolated sightings like this one are not uncommon and, once contained, do not affect the province's official rat-free designation.
