The Redeemer community mourns the loss of our brother, fellow student, teammate, and friend, Dawson Abrahams.

Last season, Dawson, who served as one of the hockey team’s assistant captains, was named the Redeemer Royals Men's Hockey Rookie of the Year, recording 11 goals and 31 points in 21 games while quickly becoming one of the leaders within the Royals Hockey program.

But Dawson's greatest legacy was never measured by goals, assists, or awards.

He was a servant-hearted leader who loved his teammates, encouraged everyone around him, and consistently put others before himself. He earned the respect of everyone he met through his humility, integrity, compassion, and unwavering commitment to Christ. Whether leading team devotions, sharing his testimony of God's work in his life, or gathering teammates and opponents together in prayer after games, Dawson faithfully pointed others to Jesus.

His impact on our hockey program and our university cannot be measured by statistics alone. Dawson exemplified what it means to be a Royal, competing with excellence, serving with humility, and living for something far greater than himself.

While our hearts are broken, we grieve with the hope found in Jesus Christ. We rejoice in the assurance that Dawson is now with his Lord and Saviour, whom he faithfully loved and followed.

Please join us in praying for Dawson's dad, mom, sister, family, teammates, coaches, friends, and all who were blessed to know him.

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
Psalm 34:18

Forever a Royal. Forever our brother.
