September 30th marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and Orange Shirt Day. This day is dedicated to honouring Residential School survivors, their families, and their communities, to recognize the impacts of Canada's Residential School system, and to remember that Every Child Matters.

🟠WHAT IS ORANGE SHIRT DAY?
Named after Phyllis Webstad's beloved orange shirt, Orange Shirt Day has its origins in 2013 from the St. Joseph Mission Residential School (1891-1981) Commemoration Project and Reunion took place in May of that year. This reunion was the vision of Esketemc Chief Fred Robbins, with Phyllis serving as the spokesperson for it. Her story of her orange shirt that her grandmother bought for her first day of school, and then had taken away, was the beginning of Orange Shirt Day. 🟠WHAT IS NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION?
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation was established in response to Call to Action 80 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, calling upon the federal government, in collaboration with Indigenous Peoples, to establish a statutory holiday recognizing Survivors, their families and communities, and to ensure the history and legacy of Residential Schools is publicly remembered. It received Royal Assent in June of 2021, and honoured for the first time in September that year. 📚REMINDER: TRACpac+ Outage 📚

Our big TRACpac+ upgrade begins this week on Friday, September 25, and is expected to be finished on MONDAY, OCTOBER 5! Affected services will include TRACpac+ online catalogue, TRACpac app, eResources, ME Libraries, and self check-out. The Library will remain open, and programs and in-person borrowing will continue as usual.

‼️Don't forget your library card‼️
During the upgrade time, you MUST have your library card with you if you wish to check out items! If you don't have your library card OR library card number, we will be unable to check out items to you.

This Sunday, we will be opening at noon as the Library team joins in on the Terry Fox Run! Terry's Marathon of Hope has inspired and continues to inspire people across the country, all to support cancer research.

We will be running to support our community - our patrons, staff, family, and friends who have been affected by cancer, past and present. Anyone is welcome to join in whatever capacity they can, whether that's running, walking, donating, or cheering us on.

After the run, the Library will open at 12PM.

Join us at the on Thursday, October 1st, for a FREE screening of the Emmy award winning film, 'The Librarians'!

Directed by Kim A. Snyder, the documentary follows librarians in Texas, Florida, and elsewhere within the United States as they unite to fight censorship and defend intellectual freedom. The film was recently awarded the Emmy for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking.

🗣️Upcoming TRACpac Outage 🗣️

Heads up, Library patrons! Starting SEPTEMBER 25, some online library services--including the TRACpac+ online catalogue, TRACpac app, eResources, and self check-out--will be temporarily unavailable. The Library will remain open, and programs and in-person borrowing will continue as usual.

Watch our feed for updates as services are restored! In the meantime, you can come by the Library to stock up on books and materials to enjoy once the outage begins.
