✏️ Emily Riddington - found the sweetest bear to match her sunshine soul ☀️she’s also the magician behind Jolly Ink and brought me this wonderful scrapbook which I cannot wait to fill!

🏺 Jessie Reid Amazing creative Potter who will be bringing her treasures to the market next week and is now the new owner of sweet pea the bear. I couldn’t think of a better match 🌼

💐 Kathy•David | Seasonal Cut Flowers & Honey | YYC & area - Dave and Kathy always have the most beautiful freshly picked flowers and the smell of these sweet peas today made me feel just like I was sat at home again in my mums garden 💛

What a week it’s been 🌬️🍃

I rarely paint large scale pieces from the off but this place was calling for expansive uninhibited scribbles and I’m in love with the outcome!

I took part in one of the windiest markets on record, and with my artwork being relentlessly blown across the car park I still managed to end the day feeling so grateful. The supportive community who visit Canmore Mountain Market catching my work in the wind, the chap who shared his fruit simply to make my day better and bumping into old friends, hearing of all their creative ventures. This blustery day was an affirmation that I’m on the right track ⭐️

So many one of a kind bear sculptures found their new homes, so I need to get a wiggle on back to the pottery studio🐻

Being by the water in any capacity always resets and grounds me so I’ve also loved discovering some hidden trails, following the water and simply taking in the view.

You know your too attached when choosing flowers for your bears, feels like committing to a new hairstyle 😂

I unintentionally took a little hiatus whilst we travelled and celebrated friendships but I’m back in the Valley and he’s what’s been going on 💛

And it’s only Thursday ✨

This week has been full of little joys that have made me a big impact.

Starting with getting my hands dirty in nature to create new materials to experiment with after a very inspiring conversation with my potter friend (we created pure alchemy which I’m very excited to see unfold!)

Followed by an impromptu camping night, discovering new places, hidden gems and sleeping under the brightest stars!

So why Bears? 🐾

Discovering they are the most magnificent creatures since moving to Canada, witnessing them going about their daily life in the wild, the way they move and interact with the landscape I knew at once that I wanted to create a piece of art to celebrate the Bears.

However after a few attempts, nothing felt right. I let my inspiration take me in another direction, focusing on the landscape itself, the detail of the mountains and the forest floor. And that’s when I knew, the landscape and the Bear are one. 🐾🌿

So I brought them together, the bear holding within it the very land it nourishes and maintains, through a series of illustrations and paintings. 🖌️

I loved creating their own characters and each one I wanted to explore further. I was drawn to experiment bringing the to life through ceramics. The mud of the earth. Using the clay to mould their forms and being able to physically hold these sculptures in my hands was pure magic.

It’s such a joy to have my second collection or ceramic bears being released into the wild tomorrow at 10am on my shop, each one of a kind, with a coat inspired by this wild landscape.
