There's a new marketing acronym going around: AEO, or Answer Engine Optimization.
Here's what you really need to know: it's not a replacement for SEO. It's what happens when your SEO work also has to hold up inside an AI-generated answer, not just a ranked list of links.
For a generator dealer, that shows up in specifics. Does your site explain what size standby generator fits a 2,500-square-foot home? Does it walk through your install process, your service area, your response time during an outage? Those are the details an AI assistant needs to summarize your business accurately—not just find it.
There's no shortcut here. Stuffing a page with generic FAQs or adding "AI" to a title won't do much. What works is the same thing that's always worked: clear service pages, real specifics instead of vague claims, and information about your business that matches everywhere it appears.
If your content already answers what customers ask before they call, you're closer to this than you might think.

The Downtown Orillia BIA connects a lot of things—member businesses, an events calendar, forms, bylaws, community news. And it serves two audiences at once: the businesses who make downtown run, and the public who shows up for it.
Most sites built for a BIA end up serving one side well and leaving the other as an afterthought. We built this one around both from the start. A members' area where businesses have resources at their fingertips. An events calendar the community actually uses. A directory that connects people straight to the business they're looking for.
Underneath all of it: a site that feels like downtown Orillia—vibrant, welcoming, a little eclectic—and just as easy for staff to update as it is for visitors to browse.
The result: one home for a downtown that has a lot going on, as easy to navigate as the district itself.

For starters, we only work with one shredding company per market.
That's not just a policy—it's a strategy. If we're running search campaigns for two shredding providers in the same city, we're bidding against ourselves and diluting both. So once we take on a client, that market closes to other shredding providers.
What that means in practice: your growth isn't capped by what we're also doing for someone down the street. We've taken one-truck operations into full mobile fleets. We've helped established providers push into new markets or hold ground in more competitive ones.
Different starting points. Same focus—marketing built around where your company actually is, and where it's headed.
If exclusivity like that matters to how you think about growth, let's talk.

A homeowner without power doesn't always start a search with "Generator dealer near me" anymore.
More often it's something like: "Who installs Generac standby generators near me and provides ongoing service?"
That's a different question—and AI assistants like ChatGPT and Gemini are the ones answering it, pulling from wherever your dealership shows up online, not just your website.
If your listings are inconsistent across directories, your service pages are thin, or your reviews are scattered, that's the gap that's growing right now.
What actually helps: answer the questions your team already fields on calls, keep your service area and contact details consistent everywhere you're listed, and give people proof—certifications, reviews, completed installs—not just claims.
Rankings still matter. But so does whether an AI assistant has enough to recommend you with confidence.

Shredding is a trust purchase before it's anything else. Someone's handing over sensitive, sometimes regulated, documents to a company they've likely never used before.
Most shredding companies already have this covered on paper: Google reviews, a testimonials page, sometimes both. What often doesn't happen is putting that proof where the hesitation actually lives: next to the pricing, near the contact form, on the page someone's reading in the moment they're deciding whether to call.
A great review three clicks deep does the same job as no review at all.

If the marketing only talks price, price becomes the whole decision. That's the exact comparison one dealer loses to the next.
Every dealer already claims to be trustworthy and responsive. That's exactly why those words don't move anyone anymore—a homeowner can't tell a dealer who means it from one who's just saying it. What actually works: a review that names an actual service call. A real install timeline with real dates. A question answered in public before anyone had to ask it directly.
You don't win trust by saying it. You win it by showing it.
Is your business ready for AEO?
Search doesn't stop at a list of links anymore. Ask Google, ChatGPT, or Gemini a question now, and you're just as likely to get a full answer, summarized on the spot—no clicks required.
That's where Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) comes in: making your content clear enough that AI tools can understand it, trust it, and use it in the answer someone sees.
Here are three places to start:
1. Check your core service pages. Do they explain who the service is for and what problem it solves or just what it's called?
2. Pull the questions you actually get. Sales calls, contact forms, client emails—those are the questions your content should be answering, in plain language.
3. Make sure the basics hold up. A page can't be part of an AI-generated answer if it's slow, hard to crawl, or thin on real information.
None of this is a hack. It's the same work that's always made a website strong, it just matters more now that "search" doesn't always mean a results page.

Secure. Compliant. NAID AAA certified. Every shredding company's website says it, because it's true of every shredding company.
What actually separates one company from the next isn't the certification—it's how easy you make it for someone to get a straight answer. A real pickup window instead of "same-day." A sample certificate instead of just the promise of one. A Q&A page that actually answers the practical questions, instead of one more form to fill out before anyone tells you anything.
None of that requires a new service. It requires making the answers easier to find than the competitor's.
Did any of these hit close to home?
That's usually the tell. Not one big rebrand moment—just a bunch of small gaps (a logo file nobody can find, a deck patched together at 11pm...) that quietly pile up until they're the norm.
All of it's fixable. And we can help.
