Announcing Simcoe County Families In TRANSition! 🎉

Families in Transition, or FIT, is a program developed by Central Toronto Youth Services to support and strengthen the relationship between trans, non-binary, and gender-questioning youth and their loved ones throughout the gender journey. The FIT Program is a 10-week group for parents and caregivers that meets once per week for 2 hours. The group provides parents and caregivers with information about gender exploration, strategies for improving communication and connection with trans, non-binary, and gender-questioning young people, and general support in parenting trans, non-binary, and/or gender-questioning youth. It is primarily focused on strengthening the relationship between you and your youth, particularly during this time of self-exploration and growth.

Simcoe County FIT will be run by Dani Chase (Chapter Lead, PFLAG Barrie-Simcoe) and Ellis Greenberg (Q***r & Trans Program Manager, the Gilbert Centre) who are trained FIT facilitators. If you want to support your trans, non-binary, and/or gender-questioning child but you're concerned, confused, or feel like everything you try just ends up backfiring, this is the program for you.

Our winter Simcoe County FIT cohort will run from January 14th - March 18th 2025 every Tuesday evening from 7-8:30pm. All sessions will be virtual with the exception of our final session on March 18th, which will be held at the Gilbert Centre in Barrie.

To be eligible for the program, parents and caregivers must be Simcoe County residents who are parents and caregivers of trans, non-binary, and gender-questioning youth between the ages of 13 and 25. If you don't meet these eligibility requirements but are interested in participating in the program, please get in touch for further discussion.

Sign-up is required to participate in the FIT program. In order to be a part of the group, each caregiver (or caregiver group if there are multiple caregivers supporting the same youth) must complete the form linked below by Monday, December 2nd at 11:59pm. Please complete this form if you are interested in participating in the FIT program at any time, even if you will not be able to attend the winter session. If you indicate that you are interested in joining the winter session, we will contact you in December to complete an intake session with us. If you indicate that you are interested in a future session, you will be placed on our list and we will be in contact with future session announcements.

Drop-In hours for September! :)

Photos from Gilbert Centre's post 08/28/2026

Art can express and hold things that words sometimes can’t. We saw that in full display at our International Overdose Awareness Day Open House & Art Show earlier this week.

Every piece told a story. Every story represents a person, a life, a relationship, a memory, an experience. We are so grateful to everyone who trusted us with their art and their story for this event. As we grieve the losses we’ve experienced, we must continue to tell stories to fight back against the dehumanization of people who use drugs and call for policy changes that will save lives.

Thank you again to all who made the show possible. 💜
