One algae reactor. Two ways to run it. 🌿

The new Adaptive Reef algae reactor, developed in collaboration with AquaIllumination, was designed to give reefers the flexibility to choose what works best for their system.

Use the taller legs to run it as a waterfall-style turf scrubber, where water flows up through the base, over the edges and down through the centre.

Or switch to the shorter legs, place it directly in the bottom of your sump and run it as a refugium filled with chaeto, kelp or your preferred macroalgae.

Same reactor. Two completely different setups.

Your controller setup shouldn’t make reef maintenance harder than it needs to be.

A clean, organized controller system isn’t just about making the inside of your cabinet look better. It’s about protecting your equipment, making maintenance easier, troubleshooting faster, and creating a system that can grow with your reef.

Here are five signs your controller setup may be ready for an update:

1️⃣ You’re constantly fighting tangled cables.
When wires are twisted together, hanging loose, or piled behind your equipment, even a simple adjustment can turn into a much bigger job. Proper cable management keeps everything organized, accessible, and easier to maintain.

2️⃣ You have mystery plugs.
If you have to trace a cord through the entire cabinet (or start unplugging things and hoping for the best) to figure out what it controls, your system needs clearer organization and labelling. In a reef tank, knowing exactly what each connection powers can save valuable time when something goes wrong.

3️⃣ Your equipment is difficult to access.
Controllers, power supplies, dosing equipment, and other components shouldn’t be buried behind a wall of cords. If reaching one piece of equipment means moving everything else first, routine maintenance becomes frustrating and is much easier to put off.

4️⃣ Power supplies and cables are sitting loose inside the cabinet.
Reef systems naturally involve water, salt, humidity, and electricity… which means thoughtful placement matters. Secure mounting, proper spacing, drip loops, and organized cable routing all help create a cleaner and more intentional setup.

5️⃣ There’s no room for your system to grow.
Reef tanks are rarely ever truly “finished.” As you add equipment, upgrade components, or change how your system runs, your controller setup should be able to adapt with you. If every new addition creates more clutter, it may be time for a better foundation.
