We believe that basic level education is necessary to sustaining a prosperous community and improving the quality of life of our learners.

The Learning Place aims to provide individuals with valuable literacy education to help develop key life skills so they may be self-reliant and live with independence and dignity. The Learning Place is a not-for-profit providing literacy education and key life-skills training to committed learners in Peel Region (Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon). The Learning Place focuses on classroom learning, which we believe is beneficial for everyone as we learn more about how to work with others, how to share ideas and how to stand up for ourselves and our ideas in a respectful way. The Learning Place helps committed non-readers with literacy programming designed to help them reach their goals in tackling real-life reading-related situations. We are also open to the Peel Community at large, providing relevant classes and learning opportunities for individuals interested in improving key life skills such as applying for a job, maintaining personal banking, or using the internet. Due to COVID-19 safety protocols, classes will now be offered online and by appointment only with instructors for additional help.

What does literacy have to do with everyday life?

More than you might think.

Literacy helps us understand the information around us.

It helps us communicate.

It helps us make decisions.

It helps us navigate work, technology, finances, and everyday responsibilities.

And when those skills become stronger, people can feel more confident handling things on their own.

That's why adult learning isn't just about sitting in a classroom.

It's about what happens after you leave the classroom.

The email you can now write.

The form you can now complete.

The budget you can now understand.

The computer task you can now do yourself.

Learning becomes powerful when you can use it in real life.

'Basic skills' might sound simple. But they're part of almost everything we do.

Reading an important document.

Writing an email.

Working with numbers.

Managing money.

Understanding information.

Using a computer.

Completing a workplace form.

Solving a problem.

These aren't just classroom skills.

They're life skills.

At The Learning Place, Get SET helps adults strengthen foundational skills in reading, writing, math, numeracy, and digital literacy—with practical applications for everyday life and work.
Because when the basics become stronger, so does everything built on top of them.

Strong foundations create new possibilities.

Is it ever too late to learn something new?

We don't think so.

You can learn at 25.

At 45.

At 65.

At 81.

In fact, we've seen it.

Learning doesn't have an expiry date.

You might want to improve your skills for work.

Become more comfortable with technology.

Manage everyday tasks more independently.

Or simply challenge yourself to learn something you never had the opportunity to learn before.

The reason doesn't matter.

What matters is taking that first step.

Because every new skill can create a little more confidence.

And sometimes, that confidence opens the door to something much bigger.

It's never too late to learn.

Can someone be intelligent and still struggle with literacy?

Absolutely.

Literacy isn't a measure of someone's intelligence, potential, or worth.

People learn differently.

People have different experiences.

And sometimes, they simply haven't had the opportunity to develop certain skills.

Someone can be incredibly capable at their job, a wonderful parent, a talented problem-solver, or an experienced professional—and still find certain reading, writing, math, or technology tasks challenging.

That doesn't mean they can't learn.

It means they may need the right opportunity to build those skills.

At The Learning Place, we meet learners where they are and help them work toward where they want to go.

Everyone has the ability to grow. Sometimes they just need the opportunity.
