Road debris struck the bottom of this vehicle while driving.
Instead of ignoring the noise or trying to ālimp it home,ā the driver did the absolute right thing: pulled over immediately, spotted fluid leaking, and called for a tow.
As you can see in the photo, the impact punched a hole straight through the oil pan.
Driving even a few miles without oil causes total engine failure within minutes. Thanks to the driverās quick decision, this turn of events only required a new oil pan and a fresh fill of oilānot an entire engine replacement.
Moral of the story: If you hear a loud hit under your car or see warning lights, pull over safely and check. It could save your engine (and your wallet).

Thatās Not How Timing Chains Are Supposed to Look!
If your timing chain has this much slop, youāre living on borrowed time. In the clip, you can clearly see severe slack in the chain, allowing it to lift right off the sprockets by hand.
Excessive slack causes the chain to jump teeth on the sprockets. If this happens on an interference engine, valves meet pistonsāturning a standard timing job into a full engine rebuild.
Warning Signs to Watch For:
- Metallic rattling or slapping noise on cold startups
- Check Engine light for timing camshaft/crankshaft position codes (e.g., P0011, P0016)
- Rough idling or misfires
Donāt ignore the rattle before the chain decides to skip!
