New Arrival - The Journey Presses On : Pope Francis's Apology to Residential School Survivors in Canada. (2026).
Edited by Doris M. Kieser a associate professor of theology at St Joseph’s College, University of Alberta and Jane Barter is professor of religion and culture at the University of Winnipeg.
In July 2022 Pope Francis travelled to Canada on what he called a “penitential pilgrimage,” apologizing for the Catholic Church’s role in the Indian residential school system. One of Francis’s most symbolically charged interventions, the visit has been understood as an attempt to align his broader legacy of pastoral humility, attention to the margins, and critique of colonial power with concrete acts of repentance.
The Journey Presses On brings together Indigenous and non-Indigenous scholars and church leaders to examine what this apology did and did not accomplish. Rather than offering a single judgment, this collection of seven essays traces the apology’s reception across diverse communities and traditions, revealing both moments of genuine encounter and the persistence of colonial structures within church and society. Positioned at the intersection of political theology, decolonial studies, and public ethics, the book situates Francis’s act within longer histories of ecclesial apologies, settler colonialism, and reconciliation efforts in Canada. The contributors analyze the apology’s language, gestures, silences, and institutional aftermath, including debates over responsibility, the Doctrine of Discovery, and the gap between symbolic repentance and material justice.
Placing sharp critique alongside cautious hope, refusing to harmonize perspectives, The Journey Presses On explores the moral legacy of religious leadership in an era of historical reckoning and considers ways the Catholic Church in Canada might open pathways toward genuine reconciliation.

New Arrival - Visiting with Aunties : Stories about Indigenous Women's Kinship (2026).
Author Janice Cindy Gaudet is an associate professor at Campus Saint-Jean, University of Alberta, and Canada Research Chair in Métis Kinship and Land-Based Wellness. She is among generations of Métis women who have built and nurtured family and community along the South Saskatchewan River. She is a member of the River Women Collective, which hosted the final Walking with Our Sisters ceremony in Batoche and co-produced a film on their experience.
The stories told by Métis and Cree Aunties are as complex, engaging, and powerful as the women themselves, imbued with generations of wisdom. Visiting with Aunties uses storytelling by and about Aunties to deepen our understanding of Indigenous women’s kinship systems, and the important cultural role Aunties play in families and communities.
Ranging from personal reminiscences to historical surveys, this collection is grounded in a uniquely Prairie Métis and Cree perspective. Contributors recount experiences of their own Aunties and as Aunties themselves. Through visiting – working, talking, and sharing knowledge together – they reveal the influence of women-centred governance on such areas as cultural teachings, health and well-being, education, and the arts, in the process shedding light on this vital cultural role.
The women whose voices emerge in this collection challenge colonial representations of Indigenous women. Collectively, they create a living expression and rich tapestry of kinship relationships. This book contains 9 b&w photos.

New Arrival - Fire in Your Belly (HC) (2026).
Rebecca Lafond is an Indigenous poet, writer, and author from the Beardy’s and Okemasis Cree Nation, born and raised on Treaty 6 Territory. She received her fine arts master’s degree from the University of British Columbia, and she has instructed creative writing through YouthWrite Society Canada, where she currently serves as a board member. Rebecca firmly believes that there’s knowledge and wisdom in what we say and sacredness in Indigenous storytelling.
Aly McKnight is an artist, illustrator, and enrolled member of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes. Her art features vibrant colors and Indigenous stories. She spends her days sketching, watercolor painting, collaborating with the Indigenous creative community, and adventuring with her family throughout Idaho, Nevada, and Utah.
Late one night, a Cree girl's kookum (grandmother) tells her a bedtime story of how the world came to be. How long ago, embers fell from the sky and made all living things, big and small. And how, to this day, little pieces of the sky continue to live warm in our bellies.
With lyrical, flowing text and powerful watercolour illustrations, this uplifting story illuminates how that fire within connects us all from generation to generation and is fed with every emotion we experience: It glows from joy when we’re picking fresh summer raspberries, hisses when emotions are a fierce storm, smoulders with anger, and ignites when our bellies fill with laughter while splashing in puddles.
Page by page, the girl learns how to appreciate and feed the embers with laughter and love, and to release feelings when they build like thunder by letting tears stream down like cleansing rain. She learns that the fire is what makes us strong and gives us courage, even when we doubt ourselves.
A traditional Indigenous story to treasure, Fire in Your Belly shares the universal message that we are forever connected to the ancestors who passed down the fire generations ago—and that we each continue to carry it to brighten all that is, ever was, and will be. Audience: Ages 5-8.
Perfect for:
-Indigenous families wanting to see themselves represented in children’s literature
-Parents, grandparents, and caregivers looking for the next great read-aloud story
-Gift-giving to anyone who would treasure a story with a heartwarming grandparent-grandchild bond
-Teachers, educators, and librarians seeking a beautiful Indigenous book or an instructive story about emotions to share with students
-Supplemental material for curricula on Indigenous history and culture

New Release - At Ends We Rest : Short Stories. (2026).
Author Samantha Erron Gibbon is an otipemisiwak (Métis) iskwew from Edmonton, Alberta. Her writing, illustrating, and dancing have taken her across her prairie homelands, but she remains firmly rooted in the city that holds her partner and children, her extended family, her career as a physician, and her beloved urban Indigenous experience. Samantha takes pride in advocating for youth and women across her creative, medical, and educational paths, and she hopes that as her community grows, they continue to find the agency to flourish through science and the humanities alike.
In At Ends We Rest, Samantha Erron Gibbon offers five powerful short stories about Indigenous youth searching for home, safety, and belonging amid intergenerational impacts of residential school, colonization, displacement, and family fracture. An otipemisiwak (Métis) ekwa nehiyaw physician, mother, and educator, Gibbon draws from her own life as an intergenerational residential school survivor, as well as from her years working with urban Indigenous youth in Edmonton. Through fictional stories rooted in lived experience and community memory, she gives voice to young people navigating loss, food insecurity, kinship adoption, orphanhood, violence, leadership, cultural art, and the longing for rest. At Ends We Rest is a haunting and compassionate collection about survival, inheritance, and the unfinished work of healing. Gibbon knows what she wants the future to look like, but as these stories remind us, we have yet to catch a glimpse of the end.
This book contains 4 b&w illustrations, 7 colour illustrations.
