THROWBACK THURSDAY!
For our third installment of Throwback Thursday, we look at our next series of digital backdrops for SCA Morning Live. This series was developed near the end of the COVID-19 pandemic alongside a major rebranding across SCA TV. Prior to 2021, SCA TV did not have a unified brand identity. This rebrand featured the font ‘Rubik’ with a stylized A and TV in small text. The new logo was rolled out across SCA TV and is still used to this day.

This series is also the only one to have a variant with an offset logo, ensuring that a single anchor does not cover the logo. This is an artifact of the COVID-19 era when SCA TV limited the sound booth to one person, as required by physical distancing policies.

THROWBACK THURSDAY!

This week’s Throwback Thursday takes us to SCA TV’s transition from analog to digital. Up until 2019, SCA TV was an analog system, requiring classrooms to tune to Channel 5 on their VCR (Yes, VCR). A side effect of the aging system was that depending on where you were in the building, SCA TV sometimes struggled to deliver a colour signal!

In the spring of 2019, SCA TV tested a digital stream, providing classrooms the opportunity to watch SCA TV on either medium. Despite being provided in a digital format, however, early viewers were still limited to the same quality seen on analog. HD wouldn’t arrive to SCA TV until June of 2019 with the annual Prom Parade livestream. This livestream broadcast in a crisp 720p resolution over YouTube! With a successful implementation, HD would be rolled out to SCA Morning Live in September.

Alongside the increase in resolution, the digital system also provided the ability to use effects like greenscreen. This edition of Throwback Thursday showcases our first series of digital backgrounds, which were unveiled in November of 2019. The SCA TV wordmark used for this series was the same one used for the media room’s desktop wallpaper at the time. That wallpaper was inspired by the graffiti style SCA TV banner on the physical set. This series also featured several different wallpapers, including a light and dark mode version and special seasonal designs.

THROWBACK THURSDAY!
We’ve spent some of our summer vacation going through our archives to bring you Throwback Thursday! Our first post in this series shows off our old anchor backdrop, which was our primary backdrop before November 2019 (we’ve since switched to a greenscreen set). While we mostly use digital backdrops now, the old backdrop still exists behind the greenscreen and is used occasionally. The banner itself is still used annually for our group photo in the yearbook!

The image in this post was taken in 2023 on a morning where we had two guest presentations, which required three different desks. The primary green screen set was moved to the side wall, and another desk was positioned behind the photographer. It was a tight fit to get three desks in our small soundbooth, but we made it work!
