Burlington Scouting
Part of Central Escarpment Council, Scouts Canada. Serving the Scouting community in Burlington, Waterdown, and Carlisle. It Starts With Scouts!
Burlington Scouts came into existence in 1958 as "Burlington District" with the amalgamation of several groups from Burlington and the surrounding area. There are multiple active groups providing Scouting to approximately 800 members. The service area stretches outside the city limits of Burlington and encompasses the additional communities of Waterdown, Kilbride, and Carlisle. The sponsor/partners within the region are: 6 United Churches, 4 parent/community groups, 1 Anglican Church, 1 Presbyterian Church, and the Legion. Did you know that ALL Scouts Canada groups are co-ed? We have been a Co-ed organization for over 25 years! Each of the groups appoints a person to serve as a Group Commissioner (GC). This individual is the direct program link to the regional management team.

June invites us to reflect on what it means to build a Scouting community rooted in belonging.
As we move through the month, we’ll be recognizing Pride Month, Indigenous History Month, and National AccessAbility Week, while continuing to learn how we can create more welcoming spaces for all.
These moments matter, and so does the everyday work of showing up for one another with care, curiosity, and respect.
Stay tuned throughout June as we share stories, resources, and ways to engage with these important observances.

There is some sad news to share in our Scouting family. The long-serving manager of Oakville Scout Shop, who so many of us knew so well, Lydia Turczynski, has passed away.
Set up the campfire Lydia, another Scouter Gone Home.
Lydia Turczynski Obituary March 20, 2026 - Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home View Lydia Turczynski's obituary, send flowers, find service dates, and sign the guestbook.
Over the last few days, there has been news from the United States about Scouting becoming less inclusive, tied to pressure from the Defence Secretary, Pete Hegseth.
That is not who we are in Canada.
I am sharing this Scouts Canada leadership blog because it clearly states what we stand for:
At our campfire, every voice belongs.
Everyone deserves a seat, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
Scouting is about belonging, service, and building youth up, especially when it would be easier to stay quiet.
Yours in Scouting
Colin B.
1st Port Nelson Group Commissioner
