🚨 TRAVEL ALERT: Holding a Work or Study Permit DOES NOT Guarantee Re-entry to Canada! 🇨🇦✈️
Planning to travel outside Canada soon? Many permit holders make the dangerous assumption that a valid Work Permit or Study Permit is all they need to return.
Here are the top travel risks and hidden traps you need to know before booking your flight:
⚠️ Top Travel Risks for Permit Holders
Permit vs. Visa Misconception: Your Work or Study Permit gives you status inside Canada, but it is NOT a travel document. You must have a valid Temporary Resident Visa (TRV / counterfoil sticker in护照) or Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to re-enter Canada.
Leaving on Maintained Status (Implied Status): If you applied to extend your permit and leave Canada before receiving approval, you lose your right to work or study immediately upon departure. Returning as a visitor means waiting until your new permit is approved before resuming work or classes.
CBSA Border Re-examination: Even with valid documents, border officers have full authority to review your file. Students may be asked for transcript/attendance records, and workers may be asked for recent paystubs and employment confirmation letters.
📋 Re-entry Safety Checklist
Before heading to the airport, make sure you carry:
Valid Passport, active Permit, AND valid TRV/eTA.
Students: Official Enrollment Letter and latest transcripts.
Workers: Employment Verification Letter and recent paystubs.
Pending Applicants: AOR (Acknowledgement of Receipt) and proof of fee payment.
⚖️ Unsure About Your Travel Status?
Don't risk getting stuck outside Canada or losing your legal authorization. Have your file reviewed before you leave!

💡 1. Do you need to apply for a Social Insurance Number (SIN) immediately?
No! You are not required to get a SIN card immediately upon landing.
If you plan to leave Canada right away and are not working, earning income in Canada, or applying for government benefits yet, holding off on your SIN application is actually a smart strategy.
📄 2. Does having a SIN make you a Canadian tax resident?
Not on its own, but it contributes to it.
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) looks at your residential ties (home, family, driver’s license, bank accounts, and SIN). If you apply for a SIN, open Canadian bank accounts, and sign up for provincial health insurance all at once, the CRA is much more likely to view you as a tax resident—meaning you’d have to report your worldwide income (including foreign pensions or investments).
🛡️ 3. Will delaying your SIN or tax filing jeopardize your PR Card Renewal?
Absolutely not. 🛑
Immigration (IRCC) and Taxes (CRA) are governed by completely different laws.
IRCC only cares about physical presence: To keep your PR status and renew your PR card, you must be physically present in Canada for at least 730 days (2 years) out of 5 years.
IRCC does not take away your PR status simply because you didn't file taxes during years you legally lived abroad as a tax non-resident.
📌 The Golden Rule for "Soft Landers":
If you are doing a soft landing and want to keep your foreign income safe from Canadian taxation for now:
🛑 Do NOT apply for Canadian government benefits (like the Canada Child Benefit).
🛑 Do NOT sign up for provincial health care until you move permanently.
⏳ Wait to apply for your SIN until you are ready to settle in Canada for good.
Do not let Criminal Record End your Canada Dream!
07/17/2026
Can a criminal record stop you from immigrating to Canada?
A past conviction doesn’t always mean a permanent refusal.
Through Criminal Rehabilitation, some individuals may be able to restore their eligibility for Canadian immigration, visas, work permits, and permanent residence.
If you or someone you know has concerns about inadmissibility due to a criminal record, contact RTC Immigration for a case assessment.

🚨 BREAKING IMMIGRATION NEWS: Canada Pauses Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) Indefinitely 🇨🇦🛑
In a major policy shift, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced a complete pause on the intake of new applications under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP).
As of July 15, 2026, Canadian citizens and permanent residents can no longer submit new "Interest to Sponsor" forms, and no new invitations to apply will be issued until further notice.
📋 What You Need to Know About the Pause
No New Applications: IRCC will not accept new interest to sponsor forms or invite new potential sponsors to apply.
Existing Applications Still Processing: If you have already submitted a PGP sponsorship application that has been received, IRCC will continue to process it. The government still aims to approve 15,000 PGP applications for permanent residence in 2026.
Massive Backlog: The pause was implemented to responsibly manage the system and reduce extreme wait times. The current active PGP application inventory sits at 50,900 applications.
✈️ The Alternative: How to Bring Your Parents to Canada Now
With the PGP pathway closed to new applicants, the federal government is actively directing families toward the Super Visa Program. While it does not grant Permanent Residency (PR), it is currently the fastest, most reliable family reunification option.
The Super Visa Advantage:
Allows parents and grandparents to enter Canada and stay for up to 5 years at a time.
The visa itself is multiple-entry and valid for up to 10 years.
Significantly lower processing times compared to the PGP.
Key Super Visa Requirements:
A written letter of invitation from a child or grandchild who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
The host relative in Canada must meet minimum income requirements.
The applicant must undergo an immigration medical exam and purchase valid Canadian private medical insurance.
⚖️ Need Help Navigating These Fast-Changing Laws?
Immigration policies in 2026 are shifting rapidly. If you were hoping to sponsor your family or need to transition your planning to a Super Visa application, having an expert, licensed consultant ensures your files are prepared accurately and without delays.

BCPNP BREAKING NEWS: Targeted Scores Drop Sharply—Making Greater Vancouver PR a Reality!
07/13/2026
💥 BCPNP BREAKING NEWS: Targeted Scores Drop Sharply—Making Greater Vancouver PR a Reality! 🇨🇦✨
On July 9, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) conducted a targeted Skills Immigration draw, issuing at least 343 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) specifically to critical sectors like Construction, Healthcare, Early Childhood Education (ECE), and Vet Care. This opens a wide window of opportunity to secure Permanent Residency right here in the Lower Mainland!
Historically, many applicants assumed they had to move to remote, rural communities to stand a chance at a provincial nomination. However, with the latest targeted draws lowering score thresholds significantly, staying or settling in Greater Vancouver is suddenly highly achievable.
📉 Sector Breakdown: How Low Did the Scores Go?
The recent BCPNP Skills Immigration draw issued at least 343 invitations, revealing a massive drop in point requirements for targeted, essential industries:
Veterinary Care:
Slashed down to a minimum score of just 88 points! Niche animal health roles are seeing unprecedented low barriers.
Healthcare Sector:
Dropped to a minimum score of 96 points (116 ITAs issued). Covering 31 distinct occupations, this low threshold makes it vastly easier for healthcare workers to qualify while living in high-demand urban centers like Vancouver, Burnaby, or Surrey.
Construction Trades: Dropped to a minimum score of 97 points (136 ITAs issued). From plumbers and electricians to welders and carpenters, technical hands-on workers are bypassing the high-score bottlenecks completely.
Early Childhood Educators (ECE): Sitting at 108 points (91 ITAs issued). While higher than trades, this remains significantly more accessible than the cutthroat general tech or international graduate pools.
🗺️ Why This Makes Greater Vancouver Accessible
In a standard, non-targeted immigration draw, candidates often need astronomical scores that practically require years of Canadian work experience, a master's degree, and flawless language scores just to compete.
With BCPNP cutting scores down to the high 80s and 90s for priority sectors, applicants working in Metro Vancouver can easily hit these targets with standard language scores and foundational work experience. You no longer have to sacrifice your urban lifestyle or uproot your family to a remote region just to get PR points.
⚠️ The Catch: The Pool is Still Crowded
Don't mistake lower scores for a lack of competition. The BCPNP pool currently holds 8,683 active candidates, with nearly 20% of them tightly packed into the 100–109 point bracket.
If your occupation falls into Construction, Healthcare, ECE, or Vet Care, you have a massive structural advantage right now to bypass this bottleneck. However, because scores fluctuate based on labor demands, timing is everything. You must ensure your NOC code mapping, employer support documents, and credential vettings are absolutely flawless before you submit.
💼 Lock In Your Greater Vancouver Future Today
Opportunities like this don't last forever. If you are currently working in an in-demand sector in B.C., or planning to transition into one, now is the time to strategically align your profile to take advantage of these lower score thresholds.
Let our experienced, licensed immigration team audit your profile, handle your BCPNP registration, and map out your fastest route to a Vancouver PR.
