Canadian ransomware isn’t just an encryption problem anymore, it’s an extortion problem.
CIRA’s 2025 Cybersecurity Survey found 24% of Canadian organizations were ransomware victims in the past 12 months.
Among those hit, 74% reported data exfiltration and 74% paid a ransom, typically CAD $25,000 or more.
Even a perfect backup doesn’t undo the fact that your data already left the building.
What a backup-only strategy misses:
- Data exfiltration happens before encryption, recovery doesn’t reverse it
- Ransom decisions get made under pressure, without a pre-built playbook
- Regulatory and client notification obligations kick in the moment data leaves
What Microserve builds instead:
- Immutable, tested backup and recovery for the encryption half of the equation
- Threat detection focused on catching exfiltration before it happens
- A documented incident response plan so ransom decisions aren’t made in a panic
Recovery is half the plan. Prevention and detection are the other half.

Microservians across Canada laced up their shoes, hopped on their bikes, and volunteered their time in support of the Terry Fox Run, continuing Terry's legacy of hope, determination, and resilience.
Thanks to the generosity of our team, employees raised $405 for cancer research, and with Microserve matching every dollar, that impact grew to a total of $810 donated.
But we're not done yet. We continue to raise funds for BC Cancer and the Alberta Cancer Foundation and every contribution helps bring us closer to a future free from cancer. Check out
Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and volunteered. Together, we're proving that small actions can create a meaningful impact.

Microserve announces LeadIT Line Up of Speakers!
🎤 Meet Jason George
Chief Revenue Officer, ThinkOn
With more than 20 years of experience in channel-led technology companies, Jason George brings a practical perspective on cloud, AI, and technology strategy. As Chief Revenue Officer at ThinkOn, a Canadian cloud provider serving commercial and public sector organizations, Jason works closely with organizations navigating the evolving technology landscape.
His experience spans organizations including BlackBerry, Auvik, eSentire, and SOTI, where he has built revenue teams and helped organizations adopt and apply emerging technologies. Today, Jason uses AI extensively in his own work and across his revenue teams, bringing a practical, real-world perspective to the conversation around sovereignty and private AI.
Jason’s LeadIT session, “Who Can Switch It Off? Cloud and AI Sovereignty for People Who Sign the PO,” gives senior IT leaders a practical framework for evaluating cloud and AI decisions.
Every cloud vendor says they are sovereign. But sovereignty goes far beyond where your data sits.
With real examples from Canadian organizations and a focus on practical decision-making, Jason will also explore situations where the right answer may be that you don't need sovereignty at all.
Join us at Microserve LeadIT 2026 to hear Jason share a practical perspective on cloud and AI sovereignty and what IT leaders need to consider before making their next technology decision.

There’s the cost of an outage you plan for, and the cost of the one that actually happens.
Uptime Institute’s 2026 Annual Outage Analysis found 57% of organizations say their most recent major outage cost more than $100,000, and one in five say it crossed $1 million.
Most budgets are built around a smaller number.
What pushes an outage from manageable to million-dollar:
- No tested failover plan, so downtime stretches from minutes into hours
- Single points of failure in power, cooling, or connectivity nobody flagged
- Recovery improvised in real time instead of rehearsed in advance
Where Microserve reduces the odds:
- Data center design and modernization built around redundancy, not hope
- Managed infrastructure support that catches problems before they cascade
- Proactive health checks instead of reactive break-fix
The gap between a $100K outage and a $1M one is usually preparation, not luck.

What happens when AI transforms the way we work, but people remain at the heart of every organization?
We were proud to be part of Social HR Camp Vancouver on Sept 23rd, where HR and business leaders came together to explore the evolving relationship between AI, technology, and the human workforce.
From building an AI-enabled workforce to rethinking trust and transparency, several key themes stood out:
- 🤖 Building an AI-enabled workforce: AI adoption is about more than implementing new tools. It’s about equipping people with the skills and support they need to adapt and grow.
- 🤝 Keeping it human: As automation takes on more routine work, human judgment, connection, and empathy remain essential to how teams collaborate and succeed.
- 🔎 Transparency in hiring: With AI being used by both employers and candidates, open communication about where and how AI is used can help build greater trust throughout the hiring process.
- 💡 Balancing innovation with trust: The future of work isn’t simply about what technology can do. It’s also about how organizations use it responsibly while maintaining trust with their people.
Thank you to the Social HR Camp Team, speakers, and everyone who joined the conversation for an evening filled with insightful discussions, meaningful connections, and new perspectives on the future of work.
We’re excited to continue exploring how technology can empower people and organizations to do more, without losing the human edge.

So here’s to the troubleshooters, the planners, the protectors of uptime — thank you for making IT look easy (even when it’s not). 💻💪

That’s not a blip. It’s a trend line every Canadian CIO needs to take personally.
CIRA’s 2025 Cybersecurity Survey found 42% of Canadian organizations reported a breach of customer or employee data last year, up 13 points in three years.
The threats didn’t slow down, the attack surface just grew faster than most security programs could keep up.
Where the growth is coming from:
- More endpoints, more cloud services, more remote access points to defend
- Network segmentation and monitoring that hasn’t kept pace with hybrid work
- Detection gaps that let intrusions sit for days before anyone notices
How Microserve helps close the gap:
- 24/7 managed network monitoring and threat detection
- Segmentation and secure access design built for hybrid environments
- Data Center & Network solutions that treat security as infrastructure, not an add-on
A rising breach rate isn’t inevitable. It’s a signal the network needs a second look.
