Yesterday Kiki and I walked into a seniors home and did exactly that.

We hummed together first, activating the vagus nerve, waking up the breath. Then sirens. Then a call and response warm-up. Then Dream Dream Dream by the Everly Brothers.

Memories surfaced. Voices joined in. The oldest singer in the room has lived 99 beautiful years.

We’ve been hired by The Heartbeat Society to show up every week for the next 12 weeks. And honestly? We feel like the lucky ones.

Every bit of energy I have has gone into my students this season. Getting them ready. Watching them bloom. We have 8 showcases this year and I am so proud of this community I could cry.

I’ll be honest, I’ve felt guilty about not posting much lately. I have been pouring all my energy into every single singer and group I get to teach. This song is one were doing in our Tuesday teens class and i can’t wait to show you their rendition of it x

Expressing yourself comes in all songs.

This one is Presley being completely, unapologetically goofy and also locked in with the camera, using every bit of it to tell the story of the song.

Sometimes it’s about not taking yourself seriously, and fully owning every second anyway.

This week we practiced one of the hardest parts of performing, holding your presence when the room isn’t with you. One singer. A Taylor Swift solo. And her entire class dancing behind her. Because audiences aren’t always locked in. Sometimes people whisper. Sometimes they move. And a confident performer learns to stay in their own lane anyway.That’s not a performance skill. That’s a life skill. So proud of this group. 💕

Showcase is one month away and our group classes are not holding back. The focus in this room right now. The effort they’re bringing to their songs, week after week. I keep saying it … confidence isn’t built on stage. It’s built in moments exactly like these.
