What You'll Do:

Provide companionship and emotional support
Assist with personal care, bathing, grooming, and dressing
Prepare meals and assist with feeding if required
Support mobility and transfers using walkers or wheelchairs
Perform light housekeeping and laundry
Accompany clients to appointments and outings
Grocery shopping and running errands
Complete shift documentation and care notes

Martin Family Legacy Garden design elements have been carefully chosen based on dementia research. Park features will include sensory gardens, ample wayfinding signage, wide colourful pathways, seating and shaded areas. The park will also include a children’s playground, which will be especially welcome for caregivers who are in the “sandwich generation” where they are caring for children and aging parents.

Martin Family Legacy Garden will serve as a healing sanctuary where individuals living with dementia, their caregivers, and families can escape societal barriers and immerse themselves in the therapeutic benefits of nature.

We hear a lot about the “sandwich generation.”

For some people, it means toddlers at home and trying to figure out how to return to work.

For others, it’s teenagers, sports, school, kids heading off to university… while at the same time, Mom or Dad suddenly needs more help.

Maybe there’s been a new dementia diagnosis.

Maybe they’ve just come home from the hospital.

Maybe the calls are starting at all hours, medications need to be organized, appointments are piling up, and you’re realizing that what used to be manageable… isn’t anymore.

And somewhere in the middle of your already very full life, you open Google and type:
“How do I find a caregiver for my aging parent?”

Then 15 home care agencies pop up.

Now what?
I think this is the part we don’t talk about enough. Finding help can actually feel like one more thing you have to figure out when you’re already overwhelmed. We hear this from families all the time.

So I put together a very simple guide for families who are at that starting point! Share it and help out your neighbour or friend you went out for coffee with last week.

What should you ask an agency?
How do you narrow down the list?
What are the green flags?
And how do you know who might actually be the right fit for your family?
You don’t have to call every agency in the city.

Start with a few. Ask the same questions. Pay attention to how they communicate with you, whether they actually listen, and whether you leave the conversation feeling clearer and more supported.

Listen, you’re not just hiring someone to come into a home. You’re trusting someone with a person you love.

We went out for lunch Thursday to say Goodbye to our HR all-star Rose. She will be missed greatly as she has helped us develop policies and put in place so many great systems over the years. Pioneering the way with us as Longevity continues to grow and grow. Rose we will miss your cheerful demeanour every morning. She’s on to new adventures and beginnings and we wish her the very best! 🌹

I was flipping through the local Seniors Housing Guide Directory recently and was reminded of what a wonderful resource it is for Calgary seniors and their families.

As I turned the pages, I noticed something else—the sheer number of home care agencies advertising. The industry has grown tremendously over the last decade, and it's encouraging to see so many organizations dedicated to supporting seniors at home.

But it also got me thinking.

While advertising helps people discover who you are, it doesn't create a relationship. A full-page ad can't replace trust. It can't replace a conversation. It can't replace showing up consistently for families during some of the most important and vulnerable moments of their lives.

The true value in home care isn't found in a marketing campaign. It's found in the community. It's built by attending local events, supporting seniors' organizations, educating families, collaborating with healthcare partners, and being present long before someone needs care. Relationships are built one conversation, one interaction, and one act of service at a time.

At Longevity Care, our goal has never been simply to be known. Our goal is to be trusted.
