Nine stages. Five of them happen before construction starts.
With a backyard suite, a lot has to be figured out before anything gets built — what fits on the property, how the space should function, what the budget looks like, and how all the details come together.
We start with the conversation, move through preliminary design and a High Level Estimate, then develop the design and finalize the proposal before construction begins. From there, we keep checking in through the build with a pre-drywall walk-through, budget review and final walk-through.
It is a detailed process for a small building — because a backyard suite is still a whole home.

You can fit a whole home into a backyard. It just has to be designed like one.
This Richmond laneway suite was designed as a true home in its own right — one bedroom, one bathroom, a full kitchen, generous natural light and custom storage worked into nearly every opportunity.
The smaller footprint meant every detail had to earn its place. Skylights and expansive windows bring in light, warm wood and neutral finishes create a backdrop for the art, plants and personality of the person who lives here.
A gallery staircase, canvas storage and thoughtful built-ins make the space feel considered rather than compact.

It carries from the walls right through the shower, which is the whole trick with a colour this strong. Use it once and it can feel accidental. Commit to it, and the room becomes the one people stop at.
Small rooms are where you can afford to be bold.
This is the smallest one in the house.

Most renovations play it safe with colour.
This one doesn’t.
Warm tones, a palette that commits instead of hedging, and nothing chosen simply because it was the safe option. It takes a confident client to say yes to that — and the result is a home that looks like the people who live in it, not like a showhome.

This Rosedale renovation was rooted in honouring the original character of the home while thoughtfully layering in updated functionality and timeless details.
Warm neutrals, antiqued brass, stately mouldings, vintage-inspired details, and chocolate-toned millwork work together to create a home that feels historic, elegant, and deeply personal.
