TECH TIP OF THE WEEK: Is Your CCTV System Telling the Right Time?

Your security camera captured exactly what you needed. Great!

But there’s one small problem… the timestamp is wrong.

Accurate timestamps are easy to overlook, but they can become very important when reviewing an incident, locating specific footage or comparing video from multiple cameras.

If one camera says 2:15 p.m. and another says 2:22 p.m., piecing together what actually happened—and when—can get confusing quickly.

This week’s quick check:

Take a look at your CCTV system and compare the displayed time with the actual time. While you're there, make sure cameras and recorders are synchronized and that the date, time zone and daylight-saving settings are correct.

A few minutes off may not seem like much… until you're looking for a few minutes of footage.

Tech Tip of the Week: Can Everyone Hear the Movie?

In a seniors housing theatre, great picture quality is only half the experience. Clear, balanced audio can make an even bigger difference.

Over time, speakers can become unbalanced, settings get changed, or dialogue can become difficult to hear—especially for residents with hearing loss.

Tech Tip: Every few months, play a familiar movie scene and listen from different seats in the room. Check that:

- Dialogue is clear and easy to understand
- Volume is comfortable without being overwhelming
- Every speaker is working properly
- Music and sound effects aren’t drowning out voices

A quick sound check can make movie night a much better experience for everyone.

Good theatre technology shouldn’t just be impressive—it should be enjoyable and accessible.

NOW: Electronic access control & programmable credentials

THEN: Desk phones, tangled cords & complicated phone systems
NOW: Flexible cloud-based phone systems

THEN: The TV cart, VHS tapes & “Has anyone seen the remote?”
NOW: Integrated AV, digital displays & modern entertainment technology

Some upgrades we barely notice anymore…until we remember what we used to work with.
