👋Meet Andrew Pretty Young Man, a Tipi Owner from the Siksika Nation with a traditional upbringing and strong background in Blackfoot history learning from his parents from the Scalplock and Pretty Young Man families.

His personal experiences and family traditions are your window into Blackfoot practices of preparing for fall and winter. As the season begins to turn, we’ll be warm and cozy in the Lougheed House Drawing Room for this insightful conversation.

This spooky season, we're launching a scarily new Halloween tour that will take you into the spooky side of Calgary's history through their Halloween practices of old!

Join us this October for Pranks, Parties & Pumpkins: A Halloween History Tour!

Calgarians have been playing pranks and throwing Halloween parties since the late 1800s. This tour will introduce you to some of the most memorable pranks and unforgettable Halloween parties that Calgary has seen over the past 100+ years.

Explore all three floors of Lougheed House and end with a Halloween tradition you've probably never heard of - a "prank" published in the Calgary Herald during Lougheed House's early days that we've set up for you to try yourself!

🍬Have you ever wondered what Halloween was like in Canada 100 years ago? We’re investigating all things Halloween history in our upcoming pop-up exhibit, Tricks, Treats, & Traditions: A History of Halloween in Southern Alberta on display for free in the gardens from September 25 until November 5.

🤔Did you know that the "trick" in "trick or treat" used to be a lot more common than it is now?

Some of these pranks were pretty harmless, like putting an outhouse in the middle of the street, and some were more dangerous, like moving moving buggies on top of haystacks! Eventually, adults like Mr. Jonathan, janitor at Western Canada High school in 1953, realized that if they gave the mischief makers a treat, they wouldn't prank them.
