Meet Pita! 🐾
This little lady just had her first 1:1 with us 🫶
I tried to pick just one photo, but apparently my camera roll is now 90% cute Pita pics. 🤣
Is she a poodle? Is she a piece of fried chicken?
We’re still investigating. 🍗
Welcome to the family, little one. We love you already! ❤️

Sometimes the best training opportunities are the ones you don’t plan for!
While we were out searching for distractions to work through Ross’ reactivity and prey drive, we stumbled across a group of horses on the trail—and they gave us the perfect opportunity to practise choosing calm over chaos.
Ross was allowed to notice the horses, process what he was seeing and then disengage without fixating, lunging or trying to chase. Even as they passed close by, he was able to remain under control and redirect his attention back to his handler.
The goal isn’t to stop him from noticing the world around him. It’s to teach him that he can see exciting things without feeling the need to react to or pursue them.
We finished off his session with some well-earned playtime with Nyx—the perfect ending to a great lesson!
This was only Ross’ third e-collar lesson, and I am absolutely living for this progress. 🥹👏🏼
WHY FOLLOW-THROUGH MATTERS 👏
I hear this all the time: “Why does my dog listen so well to you, but not to me?”
The answer is usually simple: I ask once, then calmly follow through.
Your dog isn’t stubborn—they’ve simply learned that listening is optional.
If you ask your dog to stay, then stay means stay—not just for a few seconds or until they decide they’re ready to move. They should remain in position until you release them.
Not “stay… unless you’re distracted.”
Not “stay… unless something more exciting comes along.”
And definitely not “stay, stay, STAY, STAY!”
If you ask your dog to sit or lie down, they should sit or lie down—and remain there until they’re released.
If you tell them to leave something… well, you get the point.
Ask once, then calmly help your dog follow through.
Every time you give a command and allow your dog to ignore it, you reinforce the idea that responding is optional. Eventually, your words become background noise, and frustration builds on both ends of the conversation.
Following through doesn’t mean getting angry, yelling or turning it into a battle. It means remaining calm, consistent and clear about your expectations. Use your leash, body language or spatial pressure to guide your dog through what you’ve asked.
Say what you mean—and mean what you say.
Clear expectations build trust. Consistency builds reliability. Following through shows your dog that you’re capable of leading them, even when distractions are present.
But remember: if your dog can’t reliably perform something without distractions, don’t place them in a highly distracting environment and expect a miracle. Build the skill gradually and set them up to succeed.
Ask once. Follow through. Reward when they get it right. 👏
Consistency also needs to extend beyond you.
If your dog attends daycare, stays at a boarding facility, is regularly cared for by a family member or has one owner who works away for extended periods, have a conversation about your expectations so everyone is on the same page.
Share your dog’s routine, the boundaries you’ve established, the verbal commands and markers you use, and the areas where they still need improvement.
As someone who cares for other people’s dogs, I genuinely appreciate these conversations. You’re not burdening anyone by communicating clearly—you’re advocating for your dog and helping everyone maintain the progress you’ve worked so hard to create.
Every dog need a Jenny in their life. In this case, she’s a Kristin 💗

TRAINING TIP TUESDAY: Allowing your dogs to figure s**t out. 🤷♀️
Excuse my language but let’s be honest, some of us are really good at making our dogs’ lives easy.
A little too good sometimes… 👀
Ball rolled somewhere they can’t immediately reach? Don’t worry, Mom’s retrieval service is OPEN FOR BUSINESS. 📋
Treat fell slightly out of reach or sight?
We hand-deliver it. Obviously. 💁♀️
Hesitates jumping into the car?
Up you go, Your Majesty. 👑
Nervous about going up the stairs?
No problem… we simply carry them up. 📈
They make ONE tiny frustrated noise?
“What ails you, my perfect little freeloader?” 👼
They look at us confused for 0.4 seconds?
“OH BABY IM SO SORRY, LET ME HELP YOU.” 😂
Let me tell you, a little frustration and problem-solving can be incredibly valuable 🙌🏻
Give your dog opportunities to think, try, fail, adjust and try again.
-Hide a toy underneath or behind something and let them experiment with different ways of reaching it.
-Scatter feed their meals in the grass.
-Encourage them to navigate steps, platforms and other safe obstacles at their own pace.
-Let them work through a food puzzle.
-Give them a few extra seconds to think and work through mild frustration before stepping in to help.
Obviously, step in if your dog is genuinely overwhelmed or the situation becomes unsafe — but don’t rob them of working through every little struggle.
Problem-solving can help build confidence, persistence, independence, body awareness and mental resilience
Your dog doesn’t need you to give them every answer.
Sometimes the best thing you can do is shut the f*** up, give them a minute and watch that beautiful light bulb moment happen, right before your eyes 👀👏
Trust me, it’s a magical moment. 🪄🦄
Confident dogs aren’t built by removing every challenge. They’re built by learning they can work through them. 🐾
So tell us in the comments… is this something YOU need to work on? 😂
What are you constantly helping your dog with that, realistically, they are perfectly capable of figuring out themselves?
And yes, I want you to rat yourself out. 😹 Sometimes admitting it is the first step to breaking the pattern.
What’s that? You’re perfect and never do this?
Cool. Tag someone who needs to hear it instead. 😂👇
