"I hate math!" uttered daily in frustration by any number of children and teens, often turns into "I'm not a math person," as an adult.
There is often a lot of sympathy for anyone struggling with math, because so many have experienced math struggles, but also with the vague assumption that calculators of all types...the ones many adults use even if they are very confident in their math skills - think mortgage calculators, currency converters, time zone apps, and just plain old calculators - can alleviate this.
But calculators can't alleviate Dyscalculia.
That's because some brains actually process quantities and numerals differently enough that traditional methods of teaching math concepts can cause a lot of confusion, frustration and anxiety.
For any parent or teacher who wants to change this, join Lindsey Bingley, literacy and numeracy strategist at Foothills Academy to explore what Dyscalculia is, its impact in daily life and how to approach teaching it differently.

ONE WEEK FROM TODAY!
Meet the Facilitator: Gabrielle Heselton
What does it take to navigate post-secondary education as a neurodivergent or disabled student, and how can students and families better understand the accommodations, funding, and supports available to them?
For our upcoming session, Post-Secondary Accommodations & Funding for Neurodivergent Students, we’re pleased to welcome Gabrielle Heselton, Registered Psychologist, as our facilitator.
Gabrielle works primarily with autistic individuals and their families, providing counselling, consultation, and assessment through a neurodiversity-affirming lens.
She also brings an important personal perspective to this conversation.
As a visually impaired student, teacher, and now psychologist, Gabrielle has lived experience navigating education and employment as a person with a disability. Her work is grounded in a commitment to equitable access and helping disabled and neurodivergent people better understand their options, advocate for their needs, and navigate systems that can often feel complicated.
🎓 In this session, Gabrielle will explore:
• Preparing for the transition from high school to post-secondary studies
• Understanding when accommodations and supports may be helpful
• Accommodations and supports available to neurodivergent students
• Accessing additional funding to support post-secondary education
• Advocating for your needs and navigating self-disclosure
This session is for current post-secondary students, high school students preparing for what comes next, and parents and caregivers supporting them.
Come learn from a facilitator who brings together professional expertise, lived experience, and a commitment to making education more accessible.

Clearly, this survey has touched a raw nerve.
We've had an incredible response from all across Canada, from employees in a wide range of industries and of all ages.
Many have shared their workplace disclosure experiences in detail: what worked, what didn't, what they regretted disclosing, accommodations accessed or denied, who was helpful, who could be trusted and not, reactions from colleagues and bosses, when to involve legal and HR, contract negotiations...the list is huge.
Most importantly, they also shared valuable insights, tips and strategies which will inform our Workplace Disclosure toolkit.
If you have or a , have never disclosed or chose to, consider sharing your experiences. The survey closes September 30.
Your responses are anonymous and we only share what you allow us to.

Masking is one of the ways Autistic people--in particular, women--learn to hide, or compensate for, their Autistic traits in order to fit social expectations.
While masking can help someone navigate social situations, it often comes at a significant emotional and physical cost.
In our August Women's Group* we will be discussing different experiences with masking, including:
- What masking is
- How to recognize it, including looking at examples
- Examining the reasons people may mask, and
- Exploring the impacts of masking
Join us
Thursday, August 20
6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
In-person at The Ability Hub (300, 3820 24 Ave NW)
*This group is intended for Autistic and neurodivergent folks who identify as women or who connect with experiences of womanhood, inclusive of non-binary and other 2SLGBTQ+ identities and expressions.
