🐧 Angry Penguin’s Monday Tech Tip #11

📧 Keep Business and Personal Accounts Separate

It starts innocently enough.

“I'm just going to send this to my personal email.”

Or:

“I'll save this in my personal OneDrive for now.”

We've all been there. 😁

The problem:
Once business information starts living in personal accounts, things can get messy.

What happens when someone leaves the company?
Who owns those files?
Who has access to them?
Where are important documents stored?
What happens if that personal account is compromised?

What to do:

💼 Use business email for business communications.
☁️ Store company files in your business-approved cloud storage.
🔐 Keep business passwords and accounts separate from personal ones.
👥 Make sure important business information is accessible to the right people — not just one employee.

Why it matters:
Keeping business and personal accounts separate makes your technology easier to manage, more secure, and much easier to hand over when roles change.

A little organization today can save a big headache later.

🐧 Your business information should belong to your business — not someone's personal inbox.

🐧 Angry Penguin’s Friday Funny #9

🐧 A penguin is about to cross the road.

Suddenly, a chicken appears and says:

“Don’t do it, man… you’ll never hear the end of it!” 🐔😂

Well… that escalated quickly. 🤣

It's Friday! Hopefully you've survived the week and are ready to cross the road into the weekend. 🐧

Put the laptop away, step away from the emails, and enjoy some well-earned downtime.

Have a great weekend!

🔒 Lock Your Devices

The problem:
You're stepping away from your desk for “just a minute.”

You're grabbing a coffee.
Heading to the printer.
Going to talk to a co-worker.

Your computer is still sitting there, unlocked.

What to do:
Lock your computer every time you step away.

On Windows, press Windows + L.
On a Mac, press Control + Command + Q.

And don't forget about laptops, tablets and other devices that contain business information.

Why it matters:
An unlocked computer can give someone access to email, files, applications and other sensitive information — whether they have bad intentions or simply make an accidental change.

It takes a second to lock your computer. Recovering from a privacy or security incident can take considerably longer.

🔐 If you're not at your desk, lock it. It's that simple.

🐧 Angry Penguin’s Monday Tech Tip #10

🔄 Have You Tried Turning It Off and On Again?

Yes, we know… it's probably the most famous IT advice of all time. 😂

But there's a reason IT people keep saying it.

If your computer has been running for days or weeks, you may notice things starting to slow down. Apps can misbehave, memory can get tied up, and updates may be waiting to finish.

What to do:

🔄 Restart your computer regularly.
💻 Don't just close the lid or walk away from it.
🔔 If your computer asks you to restart to complete an update, don't ignore it forever.

Why it matters:

A restart gives your computer a clean start. It can clear temporary issues, finish updates, and often fix those little problems that seem to appear out of nowhere.

It won't fix everything, of course. But before you spend an hour trying to figure out why something isn't working…

Try turning it off and on again. 😁

Sometimes the simplest solution really is the right one.

🐧 Angry Penguin’s Wednesday Cyber Tip #9

🚨 Have a Response Plan

The problem:
Imagine someone on your team clicks a suspicious link and suddenly can't access their files.

Or your email stops working.

Or you discover that someone has gained access to an important account.

Would everyone know what to do next?

In the middle of a cyber incident, it's not the time to figure out who to call or what steps to take.

What to do:

📞 Know who to contact for IT and cybersecurity help.
👥 Decide who is responsible for making key decisions.
🔐 Know how to report a suspected compromised account.
💻 Have a plan for isolating affected computers or devices.
📋 Keep important contact information somewhere you can access it if your systems are down.

Why it matters:
A cyberattack can be confusing and stressful. Having a simple plan helps your team respond instead of react.

You don't need a 50-page cybersecurity manual.

Start with a simple question:

“If something goes wrong tomorrow, who do we call and what do we do first?”

Knowing the answer could save your business valuable time when it matters most. 🔐

🖥️ Keep Your Desktop Tidy

Is your computer desktop starting to look like a junk drawer? 😂

You know there's an important file in there somewhere… you just have no idea where.

What to do:

📁 Create a few folders for the things you use regularly.
🏷️ Give files names that actually tell you what they are.
🗑️ Delete or move files you no longer need on your desktop.
📂 Keep your most-used folders easy to find.

Why it matters:

A cluttered desktop can make simple tasks take longer than they should. When you can find what you need quickly, you spend less time hunting for files and more time getting work done.

You don't need to organize every file on your computer today.

Start with your desktop. Five minutes could make your Monday a whole lot easier. 🐧

📱 Protect Your Mobile Devices

The problem:
Your phone isn't just a phone anymore.

It may have access to your business email, files, contacts, banking information, passwords, and company apps.

If it's lost or stolen, that's a lot of business information potentially walking away with it.

What to do:

🔄 Keep your phone or tablet updated
🔐 Use a strong screen lock
🛡️ Turn on MFA for important accounts
📍 Make sure it can be remotely located, locked, or wiped
☁️ Make sure important data is backed up

Why it matters:
A lost phone is frustrating. A lost phone with unrestricted access to your business can be much more serious.

Take a few minutes today to check your mobile device security. It's much easier to protect a device before it's lost than after.

🔐 Your phone may be small, but the information inside it isn't.
