Protect lithium and button/coin cell batteries before recycling. 🔋

Loose batteries can be dangerous. If battery terminals touch metal – or another battery – they can spark, creating a fire or explosion risk.

Before dropping off lithium batteries for recycling, use one of these simple safety steps:

✅ Tape the positive (+) terminal with clear packing tape, electrical tape or duct tape.
❌ Do not use masking tape, painter’s tape or Scotch tape, and do not cover the battery chemistry label.

OR

✅ Place each battery in a clear plastic bag, such as a produce bag, newspaper bag or Ziploc bag.

A few seconds of preparation helps keep staff, facilities and our community safe.

Every emergency is different – and Rocky View firefighters are ready with the right equipment to respond. 🚒

From rural structure fires and grass fires to motor vehicle collisions, farm incidents and major emergencies, our crews use specialized apparatus and tools to serve communities across the County.

You may see tenders bringing water to areas without hydrants, the Bush Buggy responding to grass and brush fires, or rescue crews using specialized equipment at collision scenes. Behind the scenes, support units, command trailers and rehabilitation resources help keep operations running safely and effectively.

It takes more than a fire truck to protect a rural community. Thank you to Rocky View firefighters for the training, teamwork and dedication they bring to every call.

Make smart choices every time you plug in. ⚡

For Fire Prevention Week, take a few minutes to check how your household charges phones, laptops, tools, e-bikes and other rechargeable devices:
🔌 Use the correct charger
🔌 Charge on a hard, flat surface
🔌 Unplug when fully charged
🔌 When on a plane, keep devices where you can see them while charging.
🔌 Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible.
🔌 Stop using your device if it feels very hot

Share these tips with family, friends and neighbours during Fire Prevention Week, October 4–10, 2026.
