Four places your fuel goes that nobody budgeted.

Eleven minutes early at the high school.

A warm-up nobody timed.

A detour that became the route.

All of it, twice a day, every day.

None of that shows up as a line item.

It shows up as a fuel number that never quite makes sense.

Grab the case study on what modern fleet technology changed for one district.

Link in bio, or send us a message and we will send it over.

Boston Public Schools used to spend roughly three thousand hours a year planning bus routes by hand.

They rebuilt the process around an algorithm and got it down to about thirty minutes.

They cut fifty buses.

They saved roughly five million dollars a year.

That work won the Franz Edelman Award and was published in a peer reviewed journal.

It is not a vendor case study. It is documented.

We broke it down further at https://cs.advantageone.tech/link-in-bio-advone

Send us a message if you want to talk through what routing data could surface in your district.

A bus mirror system is built around one person, in one seat, looking in a few directions.

It works. It also has gaps.

The gaps are exactly where the students are.

In front of the bumper.

Beside the rear wheels.

At the door when a coat catches.

Every one of those is a place your driver cannot be looking at the same second they are looking somewhere else.

That is geometry, not driver performance.

A driver calls out at 5 AM. Every transportation director has taken that call.

Path A: the sub pulls up the route on a screen. Current stops, current timing, current student list.

Path B: the sub gets last year's printout.

Same route. Same student waiting at the same corner. One of them arrives on time.

DM us to book a call and we will walk through what sub coverage looks like when the route travels with the run instead of the driver.

Enrollment does not stop in August.

A family moves in October. A student transfers in January. Every one of those changes goes into your student information system right away.

Then it has to reach your routing system.

If that handoff is someone exporting a spreadsheet on Fridays, your routes are accurate through Thursday. The rest of the week you are guessing.

The guess is about a specific child standing at a stop.

You are going to get complaints in the first week. Everyone does.

Most operations treat them as something to survive. Answer the call, calm the parent, move on.

Try logging where each one comes from instead.

If nine calls come off the same route, that is not nine angry parents. That is one broken route telling you about itself, in detail, for free.

The complaint is the cheapest diagnostic you will ever get.

An IEP gets amended in October. A student needs a harness, or an aide, or a different dropoff.

The meeting happens. The decision is documented correctly. Everything on the special education side is right.

Then somebody has to tell transportation.

If that handoff is one email to one coordinator, and that coordinator is out that week, the plan is compliant on paper and wrong on the bus.

Nobody made a mistake. The path just had a single point of failure in it.

DM us to book a call and we will walk through what that handoff looks like in your district.

That school bus carried students this morning. Check whether anyone signed for it Tuesday.

Under 49 CFR 396.11, the driver vehicle inspection report is due at the completion of each day's work on every vehicle operated. Defects or not. It gets held for three months along with the repair certification and the driver review.

A clean bus does not excuse a blank signature line. That is the part paper systems miss, because nothing looks broken until an auditor opens the drawer.

09/02/2026

Every school bus shop knows the Tuesday problem.

The preventive maintenance interval comes due and the bus is on a route that morning. So it slides a week. Then two. By then it is not preventive anymore. It is a breakdown with a longer runway.

Nobody skipped it on purpose. The route won.

Mileage triggers only work when the mileage counts itself.

DM us to book a call and we will walk through what that looks like on your fleet.

Every day, drivers pass stopped school buses with the arm out.

The question is not whether it happens in your district. It does.

The question is whether you can prove it.
