"The path less traveled" is not always appealing to travel, especially when it's a steep scree trail. But it sure as hell doesn't hurt to appreciate it from a distance.

Everyone says that harsh mid-day light is the worst time to shoot photos. Nobody was going to wait for the sunset in this case.

I took advantage of the conditions by maximizing the contrast between the snow and scree fields, letting the light reflect off the snow and darkening the shadows on the rest.

If you go far enough, the snow is still there to be shredded. Everyone was out there for the exact same reason, and yet expressing it through a different style!

Found a ptarmigan in Ptarmigan Cirque.

Fun fact: they rely on a unique survival strategy called "triple molting".

They shed feathers three times a year (Winter, Spring/Summer, and Fall) to match the seasonal landscape.

You can see it right here with the belly matching the flowers.

They pair that camouflage with stillness, which gave me more than enough time to snap this shot 😆.

The most interesting shots are often the ones you can engineer and replicate ideas from, adding your own creativity to further evolve it. Here is my interpretation from past inspirations.

Aperture: f/5.6 - keeps the subject sharp while the foreground and background gradually soften.

Shutter: 1/400s - stops motion from the wind to freeze the scene

ISO: 640 - balances the shutter and aperture to create clean and intentional shadows.
