For the students who are always curious, always tinkering and always dreaming up what could come next, this one’s for them.

Over one semester, students take on a STEAM design challenge to imagine, design and build their own interactive exhibit prototype inspired by Spark. 🔬

Following their curiosity, they'll explore a STEAM topic they’re excited about, test ideas, collaborate in a team, learn from Spark Science Educators and STEAM mentors in your classroom, and watch their ideas go from sketchbook to showpiece.

At the end of their semester, students bring their creations to Spark for the Prototype Showcase and share what they built with friends, family and the community.

It’s a full semester that builds confidence, collaboration, and learning to fail forward while bringing something completely their own to life. 🚀

GEOMETRY JUST ENTERED ANOTHER DIMENSION. 👀📐

Immerse yourself in Impossible Geometries, the new show taking over Digital Immersion Gallery on the first floor, where doodles go rogue, circles get ideas, and lines absolutely refuse to behave.

Wander through six looping worlds of lines, circles, shapes, transformation, colour and rhythm, with floor-to-ceiling projections, an original soundtrack, and interactive floors that react to every step.

Created by Calgary studio AZMA - Axis Z Media Arts, and inspired by K–7 math learning, it’s made for curious kids ages 6–12 and anyone who likes their art with a few unexpected angles.

THE STARS HAVE STORIES… AND ON OCTOBER 16, WE’RE LOOKING UP. 🌌

Stones, Stories & Stars: Indigenous Science Night brings Indigenous Knowledge and astronomy together for an evening of storytelling, sky teachings, telescope viewing, hands-on science and experiences connecting the Land to the cosmos.

Here’s what’s written in the stars:

🪨 Explore ancient Puebloan alignments through Sun & Moon Daggers with Greg Cajete.

🌟 Map the sky in Star Mapping, using giant stones, lasers and strings to explore celestial alignments.

✨ Guiding the night is an incredible lineup of Knowledge Keepers, scientists and storytellers, including Wilfred Buck, Greg Cajete, Jim Rock, Alvin D. Harvey, Laurie Rousseau-Nepton, Dr. Danielle Lussier and Dr. Gregg Wade and Jessica Heim.

🌑 Step into Dark Space, a sensory experience that asks what the night can teach us when the artificial lights and screens disappear.

🎥 Enter the Infinity Dome for Wilfred Buck’s Star Stories, a 360° experience bringing Ininew (Cree) star knowledge to life.

🧺 Take part in Cedar Weaving & the Stars, connecting cultural knowledge, science and generations of practice.

🔭 Turn your eyes to the sky and explore the night sky with telescopes for a closer look at the autumn cosmos.

🔥 Gather for Ancestral Stars with Elders, get creative at Cosmic Kids Corner, and shop from local Indigenous artists and businesses at the Moonlight Market.

SOMETHING WEIRD IS CREEPING IN ON OCTOBER 9... THE SIGNAL IS GETTING STRANGER... AND YOU’RE INVITED. 👽🔦

The unexplained is taking over for Spark After Dark (18+), powered by ATB Financial, and it’s bringing science fiction, science fact and a whole lot of unexplained moments into one very eerie night.

The lights are low, the music is up, your friend is convinced they saw something move, and your brain is doing its weird little brain thing. Trust your senses if you want… we wouldn’t. 👀

Here’s what’s creeping into the lineup:

🍸 Sip on The Sixth Sense, a colour-changing Empress 1908 Gin cocktail that shifts from blue to violet right at the table. It looks like magic, but it’s chemistry.

🪩 Over in the Atrium, Dj Sonidef is keeping things moving all night with R&B, Future Soul, House, Funk, Disco and Hip-Hop. If something’s moving in the dark, it’s probably dancing.

📺 Settle in for an episode of “Ice” from the X-Files, followed by a look at the very real science of parasites with the University of Calgary Faculty of Science Host Parasite Interactions working group.

🍝 Feeling hungry? Black Abyss Pasta brings squid ink pasta, black tiger shrimp, arrabbiata, parmesan and garlic toast together in one very dark, mildly cursed delicious plate.

🧪 Get hands-on with weird science and test your senses

🔮 Yes, there’s a séance host. Karla Marx, comedian, drag performer, burlesque artist and your emcee for the night is here to keep the evening moving and the spirits entertained.

💃 Performances by the Cabaret Company bring sci-fi sequins, telekinetic lip syncs, burlesque and seriously good choreo to the stage for a show that feels just a little out of this world.

✍️Have you ever wondered what makes a ghost story scary? UCalgary PhD candidate Heather Clithertoe breaks down the ingredients behind a seriously creepy tale in this drop-in ghost-writing session, then see what you can summon onto the page.
