Hospice Calgary
We promise to journey with you, through end-of-life and grief, for as long as you need us. Hospice Calgary is one organization with three centres of care.
It is our mission to help people find hope and well-being through the provision of compassionate support and exceptional care during advanced illness, end-of-life, and grief.

The Children's Grief Centre offers a series of sessions for parents and caregivers supporting grieving children and teens. Each of the sessions covers key topics and common concerns parents and caregivers have shared with us.
Our hope is to provide parents and caregivers with valuable information, practical tips, and connection with others navigating grief and loss after a death.

Through our Children's Grief Centre, we support children, teens, and families after the death of someone close to them. We are committed to helping our community with resources on how to talk with children about death and grief.
At this time, many families are wondering how to talk with their children about the recent, and sad update shared by the City of Calgary regarding a missing child and community-wide search. Created in partnership with the Calgary Police Service, the card shown in our graphic offers ideas and appropriate language to inform a child of a death. A mother recently shared her daughters experience at Kids Club - a program put on by the Children's Grief Centre:
"Kids club has really helped my daughter realize and acknowledge she isn’t alone in her grief [...] We drive 120 km round trip for this program and people wonder why, but when you are a parent and see how much your child is changing in positive ways each time that’s what makes it worth it. If we didn’t have the Children's Grief Centre I’m not sure how my daughter would be doing now."
We are grateful to be a source of support for children and families navigating loss. Stories like this remind us that every child deserves a safe space to grieve, heal, and know they are not alone. 💙
Today is International Self-Care Day 💙 During advanced illness, end of life, and grief, self-care matters—for those receiving support and those walking alongside them.
Our Companion Program provides visits from a volunteer to help reduce isolation and improve quality of life for individuals and caregivers affected by advanced illness.
As volunteer Terra shares: "Volunteering is a form of self-care, as it connects me to purpose, community, and humanity."

There’s something truly special about Rosedale Hospice, and moments like these are a beautiful reminder of why.
Recently, we were treated to a cozy performance by Cowboy Tom from Didsbury, who brought his guitar and his warm spirit to our back garden. As familiar songs filled the air, smiles appeared, and his music brought comfort and connection to everyone listening.

Meet Elly, one of our Rosedale Hospice Reception volunteers who has been volunteering in a variety of roles at Hospice Calgary since 1996!
"I love to visit with patient’s family and friends, the beautiful staff, as well as volunteers [...] Rosedale Hospice brings me joy each week and is a sacred place for me."
Thank you, Elly, for your dedication to our organization, and for showing up each week to support patients and their families. 🩷

Unlike adults, kids have quick doses of grief: in one moment deeply sad, the next running off to play. It's a completely normal part of how some children process loss!
Grief—especially in children—isn't linear and can be closely tied to their age and stage of development. Grief can resurface at milestones like birthdays, back-to-school season, or holidays, sometimes even years after a loss. That's why ongoing, flexible support matters so much.
Thanks to the generous support of our community, at the Children's Grief Centre, we don't put a timer on healing and support families for as long as they need us.

“This week was the first time I had ever stepped foot in a hospice. I had no idea what to expect and it was terrifying. But pulling up to Rosedale washed my fears away. The grounds are a tranquil paradise. And within the doors, I found a great sense of warmth, safety & caring. Nothing like I imagined it would be.” – Family member of a Rosedale patient.
