- engage five internationally acclaimed chamber music ensembles for a yearly season of concerts
- sponsor public broadcasts of our concert performances
- sponsor concert receptions in which young musicians and members of the audience have an opportunity to meet established artists of world renown and experience
- present master classes led by visiting artists at the University of Calgary's Department of Music, exposing Alberta's promising young artists to the very best in chamber music

We’re thrilled to see Calgary Pro Musica’s 50th anniversary season featured in Avenue Magazine — Calgary's September/October 2026 issue, in “What’s New and Notable in Calgary’s Arts Scene.”

We’re delighted to be featured alongside Vertigo Theatre, which is also celebrating its 50th, and the Alberta Ballet as it marks its 60th season. Congrats, too, to the Calgary Civic Symphony on their 50th season starting this fall.

Through our Music Up Close philosophy, Calgary Pro Musica has brought world-class chamber ensembles to Calgary and helped grow a community of curious and engaged listeners. This season, we invite you to join us for an extraordinary year of chamber music, with eleven concerts between September 2026 and May 2027.

The Gryphon Trio helps launch Calgary Pro Musica’s 50th season with two unique concerts on Sunday, September 27 and Monday, September 28.

The Toronto-based ensemble returns for its fourth engagement with Calgary Pro Musica, following appearances in 1996, 2014, and 2023.

Sunday’s program pairs Beethoven’s Trio in E-flat Major, Op. 1, No. 1 with University of Calgary alumna Carmen Braden’s Ice and Dvořák’s dramatic Trio No. 3 in F Minor, Op. 65.

On Monday, hear Haydn’s Trio in A Major, Hob. XV:18, Christos Hatzis’ Old Photographs, and Beethoven’s beloved “Archduke” Trio.

Two evenings. Two different programs. One of Canada’s most celebrated chamber ensembles, heard up close.

Calgary Pro Musica’s 50th Season launches in just over three weeks with James Ehnes’ 50th Birthday Canada Tour, featuring pianist Andrew Armstrong.

One of the most sought-after violinists on the international stage, James Ehnes returns to Calgary Pro Musica for this special recital with longtime musical collaborator Andrew Armstrong. Gifted with a rare combination of stunning virtuosity, serene lyricism, and unfaltering musicality, Ehnes is a favourite guest at the world’s most celebrated concert halls. Praised by critics for his passionate expression and dazzling technique, Andrew Armstrong has delighted audiences across Asia, Europe, Latin America, Canada, and the United States. This special performance will highlight the duo’s exceptional musical chemistry and virtuosic mastery. The concert also includes a newly commissioned work by University of Calgary graduate Carmen Braden.

The evening's program includes:

Christian Sinding: Suite in A Minor, Op. 10, “im alten Stil”�
Johannes Brahms: Sonata No. 3 in D Minor, Op. 108�
Carmen Braden: Imaginal, commissioned by Calgary Pro Musica as part of a national consortium led by the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre

Our 50th Anniversary Season begins on September 19, 2026!

For 50 years, Calgary Pro Musica has brought many of the world’s finest chamber musicians to Calgary. This season, we celebrate that history with an extraordinary year of music: with artists we have long admired, remarkable new voices, and performances created especially for this milestone.

The season begins in September with James Ehnes and Andrew Armstrong, followed by the Gryphon Trio, and continues with artists including the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Attacca Quartet with Caroline Shaw, Quartetto di Cremona, Galvin Cello Quartet, New Orford String Quartet, and more.

We are excited to share information about upcoming concerts in Calgary and Banff featuring three of CPM’s Dick Matthews Young Artist Development Program alumni. Cellist Andrew Tai-Soon Park is a three-time alumnus, having been a member of YADP in 2016-17, 2017-18 as part of the Walden Trio and in 2019-20. Violist Tilman Sandvoss participated between 2018 and 2020; pianist Nikolai Nesterov participated between 2020 and 2022.

This 5th anniversary concert of Peaks + Prairies also features violinists Solana Freehold and Lev Nesterov. The Calgary concert takes place at the Mamdani Opera Centre (1315 7 St SW) on Saturday, June 27th from 2 PM to 4 PM. The Banff concert will be held at St George in the Pines Anglican Church (100 Beaver Street) on Sunday, June 28th from 2 PM to 4 PM. Congratulations to pianist Charlotte Giraudeau, for winning the Calgary Performing Arts Festival's 2026 RoseBowl, which includes a $10,000 scholarship for continued studies. Charlotte was a member of CPM’s 2025/26 Dick Matthews Young Artist Development Program.

Born in 2008, Charlotte began her music studies at the age of five and is currently under the instruction of Professor Marilyn Engle of the University of Calgary. She is a Mount Royal University Academy for Young Artists scholarship recipient.

Charlotte is a prize-winner in numerous national and international competitions including the Canadian Music Competition, the Franz Liszt Centre International Piano Competition (2022 and 2023), and the San Francisco Articiál International Piano Competition in 2022. In 2023, the Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition (USA), the Beecham International Piano Competition (UK), and the Steinway Piano Competition Canada. She is the first-prize winner of the 2024 Aloha and IPPA International Piano Competitions. She won first place in the 2023 and 2024 Lancaster International Piano and Chamber Music Festival with her chamber group.

Charlotte has participated in many masterclasses such as the 2022 Morningside Music Bridge, the Gina Bachauer Piano Festival, and the Talent Summer Master Courses and Festival in Brescia, Italy in 2023. In 2024, the Art of the Piano Festival at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, the CMC Gathering of the Stars Festival and the International Music Festival in Bern, Switzerland. Charlotte debuted in the 2024 Canada’s Rising Stars 20th Anniversary Concert in Canmore, Alberta.

She had many opportunities to study with artists, including Arie Vardi, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Sasha Starcevich, Wha Kyung Byun, Gerlinde Otto, Bernd Goetzke, Henry Kramer, and Sir Stephen Hough.

In addition to her piano studies, she organizes the Capriccio International Young Artists and regularly performs young artist concerts for Calgary's senior communities. She is also a member of the Back to Bach Foundation. Aside from her music activities, she enjoys reading, biking, and other sports, like skiing.

Congratulations to violist Tilman Sandvoss, an alumnus of CPM’s Dick Matthews Young Artist Development Program (2018-20), who performs as a soloist with the Sinfonieorchester Basel on Thursday, June 4th. Tilman is featured in Bohuslav Martinů’s Rhapsody-Concerto for Viola and Orchestra, marking an exciting milestone in his international career.

Tilman Sandvoss is an accomplished orchestral, chamber, and solo musician noted for having a luscious tone and profound musicality. He began his musical education at home with his father Christopher Sandvoss at the young age of five, and later continued his viola studies in the Academy and Advanced Performance Program at the Mount Royal Conservatory. He has participated in international festivals including the Festival Academy Budapest, the Domaine Forget Academy and its Chamber Music Intensive program, as well as the International Musicians Seminar at Prussia Cove. In 2019 he was also the only violist to be invited to Germany to take part in the Goslar Internationale Konzertarbeitschwochen, where he studied with Elisabeth Kufferath, professor of violin at the Hochschule für Musik in Hannover and member of the Tetzlaff Quartet.

Tilman has had the pleasure of working with many internationally distinguished artists and teachers such as Kim Kashkashian, Antoine Tamestit, Maxim Rysanov, Paul Coletti, Gerald Stanick, Andres Cardenes, Sharon Wei, and members of the Calidore, Kronos and Chiaroscuro Quartets, to name a few.

As a fan of new music, Tilman has both collaborated and given world premieres with composers such as Vincent Ho, Peter Jancewicz, Brian Current, Jörg Widmann, Julian Anderson and Huw Watkins.

Recently, Tilman has founded an international chamber music festival in Western Canada called Chisel Creek Classical.

Tilman received his Bachelors of Music degree (Honours) in viola performance at The Glenn Gould School in Toronto under the mentorship of violist Steven Dann. He is continuing his education at The Musik-Akademie Basel, where he is pursuing his Masters degree in the class of violist Silvia Simionescu. Tilman performs on a viola made by his father, master luthier Christopher Sandvoss.
