Sometimes what you’re carrying isn’t only yours.

Intergenerational trauma can show up as:
• always being on guard
• feeling responsible for everyone
• big emotions that don’t match the moment
• shame that doesn’t belong to you

None of this means you’re broken. It means your nervous system learned how to survive.

Healing can be gentle and grounded. We can honour the ancestors and still choose something different for ourselves.

If you’re looking for culturally safe, trauma-informed support (in Calgary or virtually across Alberta, BC, SK, and NWT)

The wheel only rolls when balanced. 🍂

Today, the earth pauses. Equal light, equal dark.

The Red River Cart Wheel teaches us this. Balance is not stillness. It is the steady turning of all parts together, weight shared, nothing carried alone.

Where in your life is one spoke carrying too much?

Sit with that today.

If you're ready to explore what balance looks like in your healing, a free 15-minute conversation is waiting for you.

Oki, Tansi relatives,

If you’re a contract therapist in a group practice and you’re feeling frustrated, I want you to hear this clearly: your frustration makes sense.

Many practices want the tax and financial benefits of an independent contractor model (no benefits, no paid leave, no payroll tax contributions, no guaranteed minimum pay) while trying to enforce employee-level control.

That’s the paradox.

If you’re truly an independent contractor, a practice can’t legally micro-manage your day-to-day work, set rigid availability, demand exclusivity, and then restrict client transition when you leave.

This is not legal advice. It’s a grounded reminder: clarity protects your livelihood, your ethics, and your clients.

Your body remembers what your mind wants to forget.

When grief, anger, or anxiety floods your nervous system, it can feel like you're back in the hardest moment. Your body doesn't always know the difference between then and now.

But you can gently remind it. 🌱

Try this the next time you feel overwhelmed:

1. Feet flat on the floor
2. Send the overwhelm down your feet into Mother Earth
3. Slow exhale, three times

That's it. Simple. Grounded. Yours.

These small moments of regulation aren't weakness. They're the quiet, courageous work of healing.

If you're ready to go deeper, I'd love to walk alongside you. Book a free 15-minute consultation at flowerinthewindtherapy.ca 💛

Oki, Tansi relatives,
If you’ve ever felt like you’re carrying all the responsibilities of an employee without any of the protections, benefits, or stability, you aren’t imagining it.

The dynamic between group practice owners and contract therapists has become a heavy reality in mental health care. Many practitioners find themselves navigating an unfair dynamic:

• Practices want the benefits of hiring contractors: no paid leave, no tax contributions, no guaranteed hours.
• Yet they still exert the control of an employer, demanding set schedules, strict exclusivity, micromanaged policies, and complete silence when a therapist leaves the clinic.

Clients are not inventory. They are human beings who build sacred, trusting relationships with their practitioners. When contracts attempt to treat files as proprietary property and prevent practitioners from supporting an honest, ethical transition of care, it hurts both the therapist and the client.

Clarity protects your livelihood, your clinical ethics, and your capacity to hold space for others.

Friendly note: Not legal advice, just an honest reflection on staying grounded in ethical practice.

What has your experience been navigating contract roles versus building independent spaces? Let’s talk about it below.

Tansi relatives,

A gentle note about Indigenous-focused oriented therapy: it is always guided by the relatives and community members I walk alongside.

Some relatives want to bring ceremony, prayer, medicines, or teachings into the space.
Some relatives want a steady, trauma-informed approach that honours identity and lived experience without naming specific cultural practices.

Both are valid.

Our work is about consent, cultural safety, and walking alongside you in a way that fits who you are and what you need right now.

We offer virtual care across Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories, with in-person options in Calgary. Free 15-minute consults are available.

Tansi relatives,

Indigenous-focused oriented therapy is about more than coping skills.

It is a culturally anchored way of healing that honours:

1) your story and lived experience
2) your body and nervous system
3) your spirit and values
4) your relationships and community supports

You do not have to leave your culture at the door to get support.

If you are looking for culturally safe therapy in Calgary or virtually across Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories, you are welcome here.

Indigenous-focused oriented therapy is a culturally anchored approach that supports healing while honouring identity, community, and lived experience.

In practice, this means we make space for:
- story and meaning-making
- nervous system regulation and trauma-informed care
- values, spirit, and cultural connection (in a respectful, person-guided way)
- relationships, boundaries, and community supports

Cultural safety is not a nice-to-have. It is part of ethical, effective care.

We offer virtual care across Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories, with in-person options in Calgary. Free 15-minute consults are available.

Tansi relatives,

I’m starting a gentle series on Indigenous-focused oriented therapy: what it is, what it is not, and how it can support healing in a way that honours culture, story, spirit, and safety.

In my practice, Indigenous-focused work is not about “adding culture on top” of therapy. It’s about walking alongside you with a two-eyed seeing approach, and making space for what your body, spirit, ancestors, and lived experience already know.

If you’ve ever felt unseen or misunderstood in mental health care, you’re not alone. You deserve culturally safe support.

If you’d like, book a free 15-minute consult to see if we’re a good fit.

Available in Calgary and virtually across Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories.
