In 1991, philanthropist Esther Honens established The Esther Honens International Piano Competition Foundation in her hometown of Calgary with a gift of $5 million. Her dream was to discover and launch the careers of the world’s most promising emerging pianists—a dream that has become a highly renowned international success story. Honens Laureates are acclaimed the world-over and the triennial “Search for the Complete Artist” awards one of the world’s largest and most prestigious piano prizes. The annual Honens Festival is one of Canada’s premier classical music events, intended to share Esther Honens’ love of world renowned music with Albertans every year. The Honens Festival was named 2015 Festival of the Year at Tourism Calgary’s White Hat Awards, in recognition of Honens’ efforts to enrich our city’s community spirit and raise Calgary’s profile as a tourism destination on national and global scales.

Honens invites artists to submit proposals for its 2027 community concert series, Piano Project YYC!
Piano Project YYC bring live piano music into everyday spaces throughout Calgary, from libraries, museums, and shopping and recreation centres, to parks, plazas, and community hubs, transforming familiar environments into vibrant spaces for artistic discovery.
We are seeking engaging, innovative, and high-quality projects that place the piano or keyboard instruments at the centre of a meaningful artistic experience.

Keys for Newcomers provides accessible music education for newcomers to Canada by removing financial and language barriers.
We are seeking piano teachers with lived experience as immigrants to Canada who want to open doors for newcomer families through music.
You'll get rent-free teaching space at the CCIS downtown main office, access to an upright or electronic keyboard for your home studio, and a great community.
