Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra

This afternoon we learned about the life and music of the legendary composer Ludwig Van Beethoven! Through the tales of young Christoph, performed by Classical Kids, the audience was taught patience and understanding when we meet someone that at first may seem grumpy and strange. Thank you to everyone who came to the first Symphony Sunday's for Kids concert of the 2026/2027 Season!

At Friday evening’s Classics opener, Nordic Nights, the 2026/2027 Golden Baton was presented to Mary Rozsa de Coquet. This award, first presented in 1999, is our highest honour for longtime supporters who have made a significant impact on the Orchestra. Previous Golden Baton recipients and their representatives gathered on stage to pass the baton down the line, including Mary’s daughter MC who stood for the award’s very first honourees: her grandparents Drs. Ted and Lola Rozsa. We are extremely grateful for Mary’s generous contributions to the Calgary Phil including her ongoing support of the Resident Conductor Endowed Chair.

Classics came back to the Jack Singer in a big way with 2026/2027 series opener Nordic Nights! It was a great evening of music by Zosha Di Castri, Edvard Grieg, and Jean Sibelius, performed by conductor Naomi Woo, pianist Stewart Goodyear, the Orchestra, and the Calgary Philharmonic Chorus. Thanks to everyone who came to our third annual Phil in the Park. Although the concert ended sooner than expected it was amazing to see so many of you coming together to celebrate the wonderful power of music. Here's to better weather in 2027. Calgary came out in a big way tonight to celebrate the life, stories, and songs of one of the world’s most beloved figures at the Canadian premiere of Dolly Parton’s Threads: My Songs in Symphony. Co-produced by Dolly together with Schirmer Theatrical and Sony Music Publishing, the concert saw an amazing cast of vocalists and musicians joining the Orchestra — all led by conductor and concert arranger/orchestrator David Hamilton — to present this production for the first time since Dolly’s passing. An inspiring evening of music and memories at a sold-out Jack Singer Concert Hall, it made for a very special start to our 2026/2027 Season.

Thanks to Alpine Park for presenting another great Twilight Symphony in the Park! What better way to start off the season — and for Resident Conductor Ilan Kumaranayake Mendel to make his Calgary Phil debut — than a free outdoor concert on a beautiful September evening.
