Continuous learning and staying connected to our industry are important to the Pipestone Projects team.
We were pleased to participate in Canadian Women in Energy’s Technical Session featuring Joanna Williams, Vice President, Operations, Liquids at Keyera, presenting “Midstream 101: Making the Connection.”
The session provided valuable insight into NGL extraction and fractionation, along with how midstream facilities integrate with producers — a great opportunity to strengthen industry knowledge and better understand how the different pieces of our energy sector connect.
Thank you to CWiE and Joanna for sharing your knowledge and bringing industry professionals together to learn, connect and continue the conversation.

The Lowest Estimate Isn’t Always the Best Estimate
When it comes to major projects, the lowest number on the page doesn’t always tell the whole story.
A strong estimate looks beyond the initial cost. It considers labour availability and productivity, schedule, equipment, project complexity, potential risks and the realities of executing the work in the field.
An estimate that misses those factors may look good at the beginning — but unexpected costs, delays and changes can quickly tell a different story.
At Pipestone Projects, estimating is about giving clients a realistic picture of what it will take to deliver a project successfully.
Contact [email protected] for information on how we can help estimate your project.

PIPELINE 101 | What happens when the temperature of a pipeline changes?
Steel expands when it heats up and contracts when it cools down — and pipelines are no exception.
For a buried pipeline, surrounding soil can restrain that movement. As operating temperatures and pressures change, engineers must consider the stresses and strains that can develop within the pipe.
That means accounting for factors such as thermal expansion and contraction, internal pressure, pipe-soil interaction, bends and changes in pipeline geometry.
It’s an interesting reminder that a pipeline that appears completely stationary above ground can have some complex engineering happening below the surface.

Being part of the community is important to us at Pipestone Projects, and we’re proud to see our team getting involved and supporting organizations that make a difference.
It was great to attend the Canadian Women in Energy (CWiE) community event last evening to recognize and celebrate the volunteers who give their time to the organization.
Congratulations as well to CWiE on its donation to Made by Momma this year — a great example of giving back and supporting our local community.

Just a friendly reminder.
Canada has the resources. Canada has the expertise. And Canada has the people to build the infrastructure that keeps our country moving.
Pipelines. Power plants. Ports. Railways. Roads.
At Pipestone Projects, we’re proud to be part of an industry that helps build the infrastructure Canada needs today and for the future.
Sometimes the message really can be that simple: Let’s build. Contact [email protected] to discuss how Pipestone Projects can help with your estimating.
Congratulations to Jared Bohnet, our September winner! Keep following us for our next give-a-way!

A little cold and wet weather isn’t stopping Jon Carey from Pipestone Projects and Russ Rogers from hitting the course today for the SPOGG Canadian Energy Golf Tournament.
It may not be perfect golf weather, but it’s still a great opportunity to catch up with industry colleagues, make new connections and enjoy a day on the course.
Hopefully the rain holds off, and the golf balls stay out of the water!

WORD OF THE WEEK: Front-End Loading (FEL)
Front-End Loading (FEL) is the process of defining a project’s scope, costs, schedule, risks, and ex*****on strategy early in the planning stage, before major resources are committed.
Simply put, the more you understand upfront, the better prepared you are to make informed decisions as the project moves forward.
At Pipestone Projects, strong front-end planning helps provide the Confidence to Proceed.

A look back at our work on the Legacy Pipeline.
There’s something about seeing a pipeline project at this stage, pipe strung out, equipment in the ditch and the right-of-way taking shape.
The Pipestone Projects team was proud to be part of the Legacy Pipeline project, providing construction management and estimating support along the way.
Projects like this are a good reminder of the amount of planning, coordination and people it takes to get pipe in the ground.

Every successful pipeline project starts long before the first piece of pipe hits the right-of-way.
Behind the crews in the field are the estimators, planners, schedulers and project professionals working through the details that help turn a project from an idea into a plan that can be built.
Happy Labour Day from the team at Pipestone Projects.
