Your values can look solid and the painting can still feel flat. Soft and lost edges give the eye somewhere to rest, hard edges pull attention. Use them on purpose.

In oil, choose hard edges near what matters, soften what should fall back, and let some edges disappear in shadow or atmosphere. Try the small study on slide 7 and squint to check where your eye lands.
