Jessica Sanchez is a Filipino-Canadian filmmaker based in Calgary, AB. Hi! I'm Jess.
I'm incredibly passionate about visual storytelling, and creating moments on film that invoke emotion and contemplation. I've worked in wedding videography, documentary filmmaking, have directed and produced music videos, and more recently, have been involved in the production of short films.

We’d gotten together for fun because I wanted to try out my medium format film camera and, well, it did not disappoint!
My apologies for only getting around to making this now. I’ve been figuring out how to content-ify my film photography for a year now 😂 but I’m happy with how this turned out!

I’m still figuring out the kind of content I’d like to be making, but this felt like a good start! This was my first time shooting primarily in film (while still being pretty new at it) and although I didn’t quite get the results I wanted, this trip was a breath of fresh air in recovering from a season of creative burnout. I might do a video on that later. For now, enjoy some of these frames!

This was one of the coolest moments of my entire life. This past Tuesday night I was commissioned by my denominational family and affirmed in my calling and assignment to love on artists across Canada. I was surrounded by some of the most important people in my life in one of the biggest moments of my life—those who have not only supported me and encouraged me in this journey from pastoral ministry to missions, but the people who have inspired me to pursue ministry from the very start.
I didn’t get time to honour my leaders and friends publicly, but I wanted to hold space for that here.
Hebrews 13:7 says this: “Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.”
— thank you for being a steady friend and pastor. You have encouraged and reminded me time and time again that I have a pastoral gifting. Two years ago, when I was at my lowest and fully believed that my season in ministry was over, you encouraged my heart, reminding me that God was still writing my story. That gave me a renewed sense of hope in the things God had called me to years and years ago.

— you two have walked with me in every difficult season I’ve had in my life. You have been my mentors, my pastors, but most importantly, my big brother and sister. You are my family. Thank you for encouraging me, believing in me, in my calling, and continually spurring me on. You have been my biggest role models and I constantly look to you in the ways you simply live and lead your lives.

I’ve been loving these cinematic style edits lately. It’s been scratching that itch in my brain and fueling my creativity. It’s been a while since I’ve just gone out and everywhere with my camera and I’ve realized how little of life I’ve been capturing.
Both of my parents were obsessive with capturing our childhood—my mom being a film photographer and my dad being the family videographer, using this massive camcorder (with real analog tapes) that he used to bring everywhere and make home movies with and it’s unbelievable looking back and seeing the story of our lives unfold through visual documentation. Smart phones have changed so much of how we capture and perceive life these days and just being here, living slowly and spending time with my family has made me realize how much I want to do the same. To be able to look back and show my future kids that this was life in the 2020’s. Nostalgia is real. Growing up and older is real. Life is too short and precious to let the moments pass and dwindle away.
There’s always a story to tell. How will you tell it?
