The organizations we partner with are doing important work; real work. The kind that changes lives, strengthens communities, and holds the social fabric together.

We don't take lightly the trust it takes to let someone into that work alongside you.

To the leaders who have invited us in, thank you. It's the greatest privilege of what we do.

The sector is better because you're in it.

Summer is a quieter time for a lot of organizations. Fewer events, smaller teams, a chance to breathe (here's hoping!).

We hope the non-profit leaders and fundraisers reading this are taking some of that space for themselves.

You carry a lot. The work you do, the communities you serve, the missions you keep alive, all deserve to be sustained. And so do you.

Rest when you can. The sector needs you in it for the long haul.

We hear some version of this often: "We know we need help, but we're not sure we're ready."

What we've learned after 10 years of working alongside non-profits at every stage is that you don't have to have it all figured out before you reach out. That's actually where the work begins.

We'll help you figure it out.

A conversation costs nothing, and sometimes it's the thing that changes everything.

If your organization has a vision bigger than your current capacity to fund it, we'd love to talk.

2026 is , and we're celebrating the people on our team who give back beyond the work.

Today, that's Kejina Robinson, in her own words.

"Volunteering has been part of my life since I was young, and it continues to be important to me today. I've been very fortunate, and I feel it's my responsibility to give back. I remember volunteering with vulnerable communities when I was younger, and it was the first time I saw the impact that something as simple as giving my time could have on a community, on a person's life. That experience has stayed with me.

If I can give my time or my talents to make a positive change, why wouldn't I? That's always been my approach, and it's what led me to where I am today. I currently serve on the Board of Directors with YMCA of Northern Alberta, where I'm able to share my knowledge of non-profit governance and fundraising with an organization that is very close to my heart. I grew up going to the YMCA, and volunteering there now feels like a full circle moment. So many of the skills I gained as a young person in that organization are the same ones I can now bring back to it."

We're proud to work alongside people who show up for non-profit sector professionally and personally.

To every volunteer giving their time and talents to the causes that matter, thank you.

The summer slowdown is one of the best gifts the fundraising calendar gives you.

Here's how to use it.

Our own Matthew Burns shares what he recommends charities focus on right now:

🟠 Review your donor engagement assets. Look at everything that supports your fund development activity, from case materials to online information to proposals. Ask whether they're as simple and donor-centred as they could be.

🟠 Dig into your data. Go back several years and look at who has been giving consistently but quietly disengaged, and who has lapsed altogether. The answers are usually already in your database.

🟠 Prioritize your list. From the data, create a focused subset of donors and prospects you'd like to re-engage. Where possible, align them with interest areas that connect naturally to your mission.

🟠 Bring your team in. Review that donor list together and identify volunteers who are strong community connectors. Look for genuine points of intersection between donor interests and your organization's work.

🟠 Then engage. Spread those conversations across your team and volunteers. Set up calls, coffees, or virtual chats. Invite people to summer events where it makes sense. And if you've refreshed your donor materials, put them to work.

Summer can be a runway for the fundraising year ahead if you put some intention behind it.

What is your team doing this summer to stay connected to your donors? We'd love to hear from you. πŸ‘‡

As ViTreo marks 10 years, we asked one of our own to reflect on what's shaped the non-profit sector and what it takes to lead through what's coming next.

Tony Myers shares his insights on everything from the significant shifts he's seen to his favourite piece of advice.

Scroll through for the wisdom he wishes someone had shared with him earlier and the advice every non-profit leader needs to hear right now.

The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth is here. 🀠

For ten days every July, Calgary slows down (well, parts of it speed up!), opens up, and reminds us that community is built in the spaces between the everyday. For non-profit leaders, that's not just a nice backdrop, it's an opportunity.

People are relaxed, generous, and present in a way that's rare. Whether you're hosting a pancake breakfast, connecting with donors in a casual setting, or simply showing up and representing your mission, lean into it. Some of the best relationship-building happens in informal settings.

And if you're heading out to enjoy the festivities, look for the non-profits showing up in your community this week. Attend their breakfasts, visit their booths, bring your neighbours. Your presence and support means more than you know.

Happy Stampede, Calgary. See you out there. 🐎

Accessibility starts before your event begins - 07/02/2026

Are you thinking enough about accessibility when planning your events?

For many people, attending an event involves planning that most people never think about. Transportation, washrooms, entrances, seating, lighting, sound, energy levels, support workers, backup plans.

Comfort (or discomfort) around these things can determine whether they decide to come at all.

Accessibility isn't a checklist item to add after the details are set, it needs to be a design decision that shapes who gets to be in the room.

For non-profit organizations hosting galas, community events, or fundraising gatherings, this matters in a deep way. The people you serve deserve to be in those spaces. So do your donors, your volunteers, and your community.

Maayan Ziv's piece on CharityVillage is a thoughtful, practical read for anyone planning events in the sector. We're sharing it because it's worth your time.

Happy Canada Day. 🍁

A day to celebrate this country we call home. Its landscapes, its communities, its people, and to hold honestly the complexity of its history.

Canada is not a finished story. It is one we are still writing, and the willingness to reckon with where we have been is part of what makes the path forward meaningful.

To everyone acknowledging today: we hope you find moments of joy, connection, and gratitude for the people around you.

Happy July 1st from all of us at ViTreo.
