If you or a child you know are curious about how games, animations, and digital creations are made, Code Club is a great place to start!

Designed for children aged 8-12, Code Club is a welcoming, hands-on program where kids can explore coding through fun and creative projects. With activities developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation, participants can learn to create their own games, animations, stories, and more--while building problem-solving skills, confidence, creativity, and teamwork along the way.

No previous coding experience is needed. Whether your child is already interested in technology or is trying coding for the first time, Code Club offers a supportive space to learn, experiment, and have fun.

Register now for this 6-week session that runs on Tuesdays from 4:30-5:30pm starting November 3, 2026 - December 8, 2026.

Perth author Michael Dupuis is coming back to the library this October with an interesting discussion around his latest book, THE INCOGNITO REPORTER AND THE ON-TO-OTTAWA TREK. Join us on Saturday, October 17 at 1pm for a discussion and reading from this novel.

Here is what his website says about this new novel which takes place during the Great Depression:

​At the height of the Great Depression, 2,000 young, single, unemployed and homeless men decided to ride boxcars from Vancouver to Ottawa to seek work and wages from Prime Minister "Iron Heel" R.B. Bennett. Their undertaking became the On-To-Ottawa Trek. Vancouver Advocate cub reporter Mark Hunter is given the perilous assignment of infiltrating the Trek. Once accepted into the journey, can he remain incognito? Can he endure the odyssey's hardships and dangers? Also, can he survive the Trek's violent ending? Most important, can he provide objective and accurate reporting of the historic event?

Dupuis has done several author talks at our library in the past few years and they've always been fascinating and full of history. If you're a history buff or even if you'd just like to hear more about this novel, Dupuis will not disappoint.

As part of Ontario Culture Days, we're going to be collecting art supplies as a donation to Art For Aid which provides art supplies to Indigenous community schools that have very little funding for art supplies.

Over the next few weeks and leading up especially to September 30th, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we will be taking new and gently used art and craft supplies at the Carleton Place Public Library. We'll post a list of what is accepted, but generally good, clean, new or gently used supplies that children would benefit from will be accepted. They do not accept paper or books, no glitter-based items as they are bad for the water, and nothing flammable or breakable.

Please take a look around your craft containers for things like markers, crayons, pens, watercolour or acrylic paints, erasers, scissors, ribbon, and unused craft kits as ideas. Anything in good working order will be accepted even if it isn't new. Think of this as a great way to help kids who do not have access to supplies, and clean out your home at the same time!

Art for Aid is a volunteer run organization that takes all the supplies, packs them up and ships them to Indigenous communities in Canada that need them--all through donations. We think this is a great group to support.

Have you registered yet for "People at Risk", the next in the Serious Money Seminar Series with Keill and Associates? Join us on Saturday, October 3rd for a morning devoted to information for individuals living with disabilities, cognitive decline and their caregivers.

Storytime is back! If you missed the first session last week, not to worry--there are plenty more coming this fall.

Join us each Wednesday morning at 10am now through December 16th for kids aged 3-5. This is a fun session with lots of books, songs, activities and laughter! Andy has planned a fun fall with a special storytime at the end of each month, so watch the calendar for all the details.
