ACT is a community-based, amateur-theatre association with a mandate to:

(a) foster and encourage amateur theatre on Prince Edward Island;

(b) stimulate cooperation between ACT and all persons and groups active in community theatre on Prince Edward Island;

(c) welcome wide involvement in its activities, offering accessibility for all in the community;

(d) present good-quality theatre productions;

(e) foster and encourage artistic and practical development of members through exposure to workshops, mentoring, productions, and other theatre activities;

(f) foster and encourage awareness of all facets of amateur theatrical productions;

(g) collect and make available materials supportive to the development of community theatre on Prince Edward Island;

(h) provide for shared social activities associated with theatre. ACT also provides a variety of different workshops, play-readings, and events.

Sydney Innis as Gwendolyn🌷

Sydney is a lifelong fan of theater who made her debut in 2024, taking to the stage as Bohemiana in Rent, where she was given the honor of performing the "Seasons of Love" solo. Most recently, she appeared in Elf the Musical, where she served as both ensemble and understudy for Jovie. When not treading the boards, Sydney works as a school counselor and manages a busy household of six. She would like to thank her family and friends for their endless support, and for giving her that final push to sing and perform onstage and not just in the shower.

Marti Hopson as Miss Prism🌟

Marti Hopson grew up on the shores of Lake Superior, and has been involved in live theatre since playing Ruchel the shoemaker's daughter in Fiddler on the Roof in 1984. She composed music for, performed in, directed, and stage managed many musical and theatre productions in Ontario, Quebec and BC before taking a lengthy hiatus from the world of the arts. After moving to PEI, she found herself on stage for ‘Sinners’, ‘The Shop Around the Corner’, ‘Skin Flick’, ‘Wake in the West’, and 'Noises Off' as well as performing with local musical groups, pit bands, and with River Clyde Arts.

Meet the Cast! 💫

Abby Buchan is a 27-year-old early childhood educator who has had a love for the stage ever since she could walk and talk. Although she originally started her theatre journey in Ontario, it was here that she first stepped foot back on the stage in over six years! She has not stopped since. Her most recent endeavors have included playing Lexie in Lovesick by Kristina Poe (ACT), Cubby Bear in the original production of Cubby Bear and the Adventure Home (ArcticStar Theatre), Porsche in one of this year's 48 hour film projects titled Savings (directed by Jack Hunter), and Aurora in a local short titled Shapes (directed by Jacob Puiras). She can't wait for everyone to see this fast-paced, comedic classic. The play itself is written for laughs, but she truly believes this cast is what will bring a memorable show that will have you laughing from beginning to end.

With deep and profound regret, ACT (a community theatre) mourns the passing of a friend and member of the organization in Tim Wartman.

First and foremost a family man, Tim shared his talents with ACT between 2013 and 2016 when he was available. Generous and giving, Tim had a unique ability to make everyone around him better both on and off stage. His genuine and grounded style, paired with brilliant comedic timing, made him into the kind of theatrical everyman that, like a fine w**e, pairs well with everything. He put these talents to use for ACT in Mirror Mirror, Arcadia, Of a Certain Age, The Belarusian Orange Grove (twice), Much Ado About Nothing, and The Laramie Project. In this last, Tim played multiple roles and showed that he was more of an actor than a comedic foil.

ACT was not the only community that Tim was a member of: as an actor, he graced many stages, and worked with a true who's who of PEI talent. At UPEI, he featured prominently in Romeo & Juliet, Julius Caesar, The Pickwick Papers, and God. After graduation, he joined Annekenstein and Eddie May Murder Mysteries to show off his improv skills, showed his musical abilities in Gabriel and Evangeline, worked with Lorne Elliot in Mom Runs Amok, filmed both a heritage video for Province House (A Building of Destiny) and a TV episode of The Amazing Race, and the Fox Henderson horror film Moonshine of the Damned. An avid guitar player and song writer, Tim also formed his own community, a deep and vast network of friends. Tim and Cheryl hosted two annual parties that would draw hundreds of otherwise unconnected people in to a kitchen party atmosphere that was welcoming to all.

Health issues and loss in the family pushed Tim away from the stage in the past few years, but his passion for supporting others never faded. He passed on his passion for theatre and music to his children, and to young actors that he worked with. On his behalf, ACT is honoring his memory with a donation to our bursary program for students continuing education in theatre. In this way, his passion for helping others grow and learn will carry on to further generations of actors. We offer this along with the condolences of the board and the organization to Tim's wife Cheryl, children Danny and Victoria, as well as his extended family.

“Overall it has been an amazing ride” – April 29, 2026, Tim Wartman, blog
