๐Ÿฉบ Cold, Flu or Something More? Know the Signs

As fall approaches, respiratory viruses such as influenza, COVID-19 and RSV become an important health concern in Alberta. The current Alberta respiratory-virus season began August 30, 2026.

A cold or flu may cause cough, fever, tiredness, sore throat, runny nose or body aches. Flu can come on suddenly and may be more severe than a typical cold.

Don't ignore symptoms that are severe, getting worse, or concerningโ€”especially if you have an underlying health condition or are at higher risk of complications. Speak with a healthcare professional for guidance.

In the meantime, stay home when you're sick, wash your hands regularly, cover coughs and sneezes, and avoid close contact with others when possible.

Your health is worth paying attention to. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿฉบ WHAT ALBERTANS SHOULD KNOW

**Preventative Health Testing Has Changed in Alberta**

As of July 31, 2026, Alberta introduced a new option allowing people to access certain preventative diagnostic imaging tests through participating private clinics **without a physician referral**.

Available tests may include:
โ€ข MRI
โ€ข CT scans
โ€ข Ultrasound
โ€ข X-rays

โš ๏ธ **Important:** Self-referral does not mean every test is appropriate for everyone. A regulated healthcare professional must assess whether the requested test is suitable and safe.

If you have questions about your health or whether you need testing, speaking with a healthcare professional is a good place to start.
