🎉 Town of Comox Receives $5 Million in Infrastructure Funding

Great news for Comox! The Town has received $5 million in funding through the Build Communities Strong Fund (BCSF) Community Stream to help offset the cost of the new Comox Fire Station. This investment supports enhanced emergency services and helps ensure firefighters have the facilities they need to serve our growing community.

Our newest recruits completed their first water supply training day, getting hands-on experience with hydrants, hose lines, and establishing an effective water supply at an incident.

Water supply is a critical part of firefighting and having firefighters who understand how to quickly establish and maintain a reliable water supply can make a significant difference when protecting our community and responding to structure fires.

Training like this help build the skills, confidence, and teamwork our firefighters need to serve the Town of Comox and surrounding fire protection area.

A great first step for our new recruits and lots more training ahead!

Today, we have a remarkable story of people showing up for one another, both near and far.

First and foremost, we want to extend a HUGE and heartfelt thank you to the firefighters who have been working tirelessly to protect communities, homes and properties from wildfires across BC. We are especially proud of the members of our local Comox Fire Rescue, Courtenay Volunteer Fire Department, Oyster River Fire Rescue, and Errington Fire Department who travelled to the Clinton area to lend their skills, strength and support when the Pear Lake and 59 Mile wildfires merged. 🚒🩵💛🧡💚

And from their incredible efforts came another beautiful act of community.
Bolster Enterprises Ltd. had not one but TWO properties, incredibly important to them, protected by these crews. In gratitude, Bolster Enterprises chose to make a generous donation to YANA! 🥹

There is something pretty special about watching one act of care ripple into another: firefighters travelling beyond their own communities to help people in need, a local business experiencing that kindness firsthand, and then choosing to pass it along to families here in the Comox Valley.

Wildfire deployments can place a significant strain on our members and on the coverage we keep at home. Our firefighters have jobs, families, and other responsibilities, while emergency response in the communities we serve remains the priority.

Recently, one of our Society members and a Cumberland Fire Rescue apparatus deployed alongside Comox Fire Rescue as part of a Structural Protection Specialist crew at the Big Bar Complex near Clinton, BC.

Interagency cooperation like this continues to make Comox Valley fire departments more capable than they would be on their own. By working together, sharing resources, and supporting one another, we strengthen our collective ability to respond when both our own and other communities need us.

Thank you to Comox Fire Rescue for the partnership and the opportunity to work together.

Congratulations to our latest recruit class and some new members on successfully completing their Emergency Traffic Control course today!

Training is a vital part of becoming a firefighter. It helps ensure our emergency scenes remain safe for first responders, patients, and everyone traveling through the area.

A big thank you to everyone who drove past our hall during today's training exercise. We truly appreciate your patience and support as we continue preparing our members to serve the community safely.
