Entropy simply means “the measurement of disorder,” something that has high entropy is disorderly, chaotic and inefficient. Something that has low entropy is very organized, harmonious and it works really well. We live in a social system, when our social system is unruly and we experience war, famine and destruction, we are living in a high entropy state. The opposite is a social system that cooperates with acceptance and compassion for each other, a system that works together with encouragement and support. We chose the name “Low Entropy” as a Universal way to share the important message of Love.

Mark your calendar! Thrift & Thrive is coming this fall.
Our Fall 2026 Thrift & Thrive Future Leaders Internship includes four in-person Saturday workshops:
October 3 | October 17 | November 7 | November 28
Each workshop brings something different, from getting ready for your workplace experience to building leadership and communication skills, learning about anti-hate and anti-racism, exploring financial literacy and career readiness, connecting with a mentor, and developing your community awareness project.
Participants must be available to attend all four workshop dates, along with completing their weekly volunteer shifts at Thrift & Fund throughout the 8-week program.
Thrift & Thrive is FREE for youth ages 16–24, and participants who successfully complete the program receive volunteer hours, a certificate of completion, and a $150 honorarium.

That’s a wrap on Tina’s WEOG placement! 🎓✨
After 200 hours of learning, working, and growing at Thrift & Fund, Tina has officially completed the program!
Work experience is about so much more than the hours — it’s a chance to practice new skills, build confidence, navigate challenges, and discover what you’re capable of in a real workplace environment.
We loved having Tina as part of the team and are so excited to celebrate this accomplishment with her. Congratulations, Tina! 💛
This summer, we had the opportunity to launch our very first Bridging Generations program. 💙
Across eight weekly themed sessions, participants came together to share experiences, exchange perspectives, and build meaningful connections across generations. Together, we explored topics ranging from Contribution, Work & Purpose and Health & Wellbeing to Meaning, connection, and the experiences that shape our lives.
Looking back, we’re so grateful to everyone who helped make this first program such a meaningful experience — especially our wonderful program team, whose care, energy, and dedication brought each week to life. And, of course, thank you to every participant who showed up ready to connect, share, and learn from one another.
✨ Interested in Bridging Generations? Our next program begins this October, meeting Fridays from 4–6 PM at the Coquitlam Aquatic Complex.

Our theme for September is giving, and we start with a trio of articles that look at how giving and receiving impacts the individuals involved from a variety of perspectives: Grace Cheng details the benefits of selfless giving, Diny Davis reminds us of all the remarkable gifts we can give to ourselves, and Kaisha Vicenal reflects on the many gifts that life often just leaves for us, here and there.

Wondering what Thrift & Thrive actually looks like week to week?
Our Future Leaders Internship is designed to give you hands-on experience while building skills you can take with you into school, work, and your community.
Over 8 weeks, you’ll:
Attend four Saturday workshops focused on leadership, career readiness, financial literacy, and anti-hate education
Complete one volunteer shift each week at Thrift & Fund, our community thrift store in Coquitlam
Gain real workplace experience in a supportive environment
Connect with a caring adult mentor during the workshops
Work on a youth-led community awareness project focused on inclusion, belonging, and respect
Your weekly store shift can be selected based on your availability. Once your shift is chosen, you’ll attend the same shift each week throughout the program.
And when you successfully complete the program, you’ll receive volunteer hours, a certificate of completion, and a $150 honorarium!

Have an idea that could make your community more welcoming? Put it into action.
As part of the Thrift & Thrive Future Leaders Internship, participants will create a youth-led community awareness project focused on inclusion, belonging, and respect.
You don’t need to come into the program knowing exactly what you want to create. You’ll have time during the workshops to explore ideas, work with other youth, receive support from your mentor, and turn what you’ve learned into something meaningful.
Your project could use creativity, storytelling, education, social media, or another approach that speaks to you. The important part? Youth voices and ideas lead the way.

What does leadership have to do with creating more inclusive communities? A lot.
Being a leader isn’t just about taking charge. It’s about how we communicate, how we respond when someone is treated unfairly, and how we help create spaces where people feel respected and included.
That’s why leadership and anti-hate education are an important part of Thrift & Thrive.
During the program, youth will explore:
Anti-racism and anti-hate
Bystander intervention and responding to discrimination
Inclusive leadership and communication
How we can build belonging and more welcoming communities
Participants will have opportunities to discuss, learn, ask questions, and think about how they can put what they learn into action in their workplaces and communities.
