Volunteers Needed!!
Our annual Learn to Curl starts on Tuesday and we could still use a few volunteers to help us on ice – particularly Tuesday evening when most of our regular helpers are curling in Crapaud.
If you can help Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday please let us know via email at: [email protected]
Our amazing Development Coordinator Sarah leads the event – so you’ll mostly be helping our new curlers follow her instructions.l (i.e. you don’t have to be an expert or lead the class!)
Start time is 6:30pm each night and is typically over by 8pm.

Volunteer(s) Needed – Tuesday, October 13th
Does swapping out the headcovers of 40 brooms sound like an exciting way to spend the day after Thanksgiving to you?
Then you are in luck - I have just the job for you!!
We used a portion of our Capital Expenditures Fees from last season to purchase new headcovers for all the club brooms. Most of them were WELL beyond their prime.
Each year we encourage members to replace their grippers and headcovers and it was time to do the same with our club brooms.
We have our Come Try Curling for Teens and Adults on Tuesday evening and the shipment of headcovers just came in today.
So we are looking for a volunteer or two to stop by the club around 10am (let me know if you really want to do it but another time works better for you!) to take the old covers off and put the new covers on.
The vast majority are the old screw on style - which are a little less finicky that the newer versions.
If you are available please email the club manager at [email protected]
Thanks!

Condolences to the family of Donald Spence
We were sad to hear of the recent passing of Donald Spence, father of club member Brock Spence and would like to extend our condolences to his family.
OBITUARY
With heavy hearts, the family of Donald Stephen Spence, age 88, announces his passing on October 2, 2026 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital following a brief illness.
Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His family was everything to him. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed harness racing, the Toronto Blue Jays, and family card nights (that were filled with howling laughter following some predictable card bids).
Don shared his unwavering generosity with all. He was a tireless volunteer with many organizations including Telephone Pioneers, Charlottetown and Parkdale Sherwood Lions Clubs, PEI Association for the Hearing Impaired, and Paralympics PEI.
Don is survived by his children Mitch (Jan), Scott (Brenda Carr), Pam Quilty (Walter) and Brock (Nicole Herbert); grandchildren Tyler Carr (Jenna), Amy Spence, Lauren Quilty (Josh) and Liam Quilty (Jordan); great-grandchild Cooper; sister Linda Jardine (Barry); sister-in-law Phyllis Spence; brother-in-law Lew Withrow; many nieces and nephews; special lifelong neighbors Jean Kimpinski and Verna Wood; and dear friends.
Born in Prince’s Lodge, NS, Don was the son of the late Victor and Ruth Spence. He was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 62 years, Joy Spence (Sheridan); brother Robert Spence; sisters-in-law Joan Cameron (Don), Judy Withrow, and Jackie Sheridan; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Leroy and Myrtle (Horne) Sheridan.
Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home with visitation Thursday, October 8 from 4:00 – 7:00 and funeral Friday, October 9 at 11:00. This service will be livestreamed via the following link Livestream. If you experience difficulty accessing the livestream, please call 1-877-895-2739.
Donations in memory of Don may be made to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation. The family encourages acts of kindness in Don’s memory so that his life may be a testament to the power of love and the importance of making this world a better place, one kind gesture at a time.

Condolences to the family of Connie Auld
TThe club and its members would like to express our sincere condolences to the family of Connie Auld who passed away recently. Connie is the mother of club member Ann Auld.
OBITUARY
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Constance “Connie” Denison Auld on October 2, 2026 at The Mount Continuing Care Community.
Born in Magog, Quebec, on April 7, 1929, to the late Kathleen and Rowland Whitehead, Connie spent her early years in England and Switzerland before returning to Canada to work as a nurse in Toronto. There she met her husband Bill, and in 1960, they moved to his ancestral home in Malpeque, PEI, where they built a life together and raised their family until Bill’s passing in 1992.
Connie was an inspiration. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. An avid traveller, she visited much of the world in her lifetime. Travel highlights for her included walking among the penguins in Antarctica, riding a camel in Tunisia, holding a koala in Australia, and seeing the wild horses on Sable Island. Connie was a registered nurse and caregiver, and she cared deeply for the welfare of animals. She was a dedicated community volunteer, a Life Member of the PEI Women’s Institute, a tour guide at Government House, and a cruise ship greeter. Connie loved opera, hosting family and friends at the Keir Homestead with her husband Bill, and swimming in the sea. She was a expert knitter, did intricate needlepoint and baked the best chocolate chip cookies.
To her loved ones, she was Mum, Grandma, Gran and Great Gran, Aunt Connie and simply “Con”. She will be forever loved and missed.
Connie is survived by her daughters Julie (Randall) Hipson of Brookside, NS, and Ann Auld of Charlottetown; her grandchildren Will (Erika), Mark (Pema), Jack (Anaik) and Katie (Andrew); and her great grandchildren Josie and Lincoln. Preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill, her brother Richard and infant daughter Kathleen.
Our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Mount for the care and kindness they showed Connie during her brief stay with them.
An informal visitation and reception to celebrate Connie’s life will be held at the Belvedere Funeral Home on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 3:00-5:00pm. Cremation has taken place. A private family graveside interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the PEI Humane Society or The Upper Room Food Bank and Soup Kitchen.
