It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share that we had to say goodbye to our beautiful Layla.

Everything began around 9:00 p.m. last night. Layla had a very large bowel movement and immediately afterward began vomiting. The vomiting continued, and it was clear that she was uncomfortable, in pain, and unable to settle.

We took her to our veterinarian, where the team worked tirelessly to try to stabilize her. Layla was severely hypothermic, with a body temperature of only 34°C, well below the normal feline range of 38°C to 39.2°C. She was also severely hypoglycemic, and despite multiple attempts by the veterinary team to raise her blood sugar levels, they were unable to do so. She was also experiencing cardiac failure.

Further examination revealed that her bladder had ruptured, causing fluids to leak into her abdomen. This was sending her body into shock and contributing to her rapid decline and cardiac failure.

Faced with the reality of her condition and wanting to spare her any further suffering, we had to make the most difficult and heartbreaking decision a pet owner can make and let her go peacefully.

Layla was deeply loved by so many and brought so much joy to her foster mom and family. The hole she leaves behind is immeasurable, and our hearts are broken. We take comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering yet hold sorrow knowing her life was cut short at only 32 days old.

Rest in peace, sweet Layla. Thank you for all the love, smiles and memories you gave us. You will be loved forever and never forgotten.

We will be taking time to collect our emotions and honour Layla over the next 24 hours.
