Today- Sept 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day.
Beginning in the 1800s, government-sponsored religious schools were established to isolate Indigenous children from their cultures, languages, families and communities. Residential schools operated for over 150 years in Canada and approximately 150,000 children attended over that time. The last school didn't close until 1996.
We at Cranbrook Pride Society commemorate the experiences of residential school victims, Survivors and their families. Today is a day for reflection on the inter-generational trauma caused by this chapter in Canadian history. In our day-to-day lives, we can all strive to be mindful of the experiences and perspectives of Indigenous people, challenge the stereotypes we may not realize we carry and consider how we treat others every day.
Cranbrook Pride Society acknowledges that it organizes and works on the traditional, ancestral, unceded, and unsurrendered lands of the Ktunaxa, Secwépemc, Syilx, Nlaka'pamux, Sinixt, and Tsilhqot'in Nations, and are home to 8 Chartered Métis Communities

Come out this Monday for our monthly community forest dog walk!! Bring a well behaved dog, or bring a friend if you don't have a dog!
All are welcome, the walk will be on a mostly flat trail, we walk at a reasonably slower pace and we go for an hour- but feel free to do what you can and turn back whenever you need to. 🥰🐶🐕

We’re disappointed to share that our upcoming drag show was not able to sell enough tickets and has been cancelled.
We know this is disappointing, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who purchased tickets, promoted the event, supported our performers, and helped us try to make it happen. We’re especially sorry to our performers and everyone who was looking forward to the show.
All ticket refunds are being issued today (Sept 16th) and will be completed by the end of the day. Please keep an eye on your original payment method for your refund.
This isn’t the end of it, though!!
We would love to try again at a later date, and additionally we want to make sure that the events we put our time and energy into are events that our community actually wants to attend and support.
So, we want to hear from you:
What kinds of events would you like to see from Cranbrook Pride?
Drag shows? Live music? Q***r socials? Dance nights? Comedy? Workshops? Low-key coffee and chat? Something completely different?
What would make you excited enough to buy a ticket and come out?
We want to hear the honest answers, including what hasn't worked for you in the past. Your feedback will help us plan future events that better reflect what our community wants.
Keep an eye out for a community event survey coming soon, or feel free to send us a message with your ideas.
Thank you for continuing to support Cranbrook Pride. We’re disappointed this show couldn’t happen, but we’re looking forward to figuring out what comes next with you! ♥
