Phoenix House is on the front page of ➡️ Designing Tomorrow, the new Miele Design Journal by Miele!

What began as rebuilding a family home after a fire has grown into something much bigger — a project rooted in building science, thoughtful design, sustainability and a conversation about what the next generation of Canadian homes can look like.

We’re incredibly proud to see Phoenix House recognized in the launch issue, and even prouder of the team behind it. This home is the result of countless architects, designers, builders, trades, consultants, suppliers and partners coming together around a shared vision.🐦‍🔥🏠

Last week, the Best Builders team hit the greens The Links at Hampton Cove for our annual summer golf party!⛳️

Gentle density is one of the most impactful ways we can add housing within existing neighbourhoods, without dramatically changing the streetscape or character of a community.

Our 1908 to Net-Zero project is a great example of what that can look like in practice: a retained 1908 character home paired with a new 3-bedroom infill home at the rear of the property. Together, the homes create more flexible housing opportunities while making thoughtful use of an existing lot.

Both homes are being built to CHBA Net Zero standards and incorporate solar energy, demonstrating how infill housing can also support long-term sustainability goals.

Vancouver’s evolving zoning policies are creating opportunities for homeowners to add laneway and infill homes, helping increase housing supply through “gentle density” rather than large-scale redevelopment.

For character properties, these projects can also preserve the original home while introducing additional family housing, rental opportunities, or multi-generational living options, all within the footprint of an established neighbourhood.

We’re proud to work on projects like this that balance heritage retention, energy performance, and smart urban growth!
