Last night, Melissa Granum closed the Delta Chamber of Commerce mayoral debate with a personal thank you to .
After nearly 30 years of knowing George, Melissa recognized the years he has dedicated to serving our community.
It was a gracious moment, and one we believe is worth sharing.
People across Delta are asking for change, not simply for the sake of change. They’re asking for a different way of doing business at City Hall. A relationship with their Council. The ability to ask questions publicly, provide input and feel heard in meaningful ways.
Change and respect can exist at the same time.
Thank you, George, for your service to Delta.
And on October 17, Melissa would be honoured to accept the responsibility of carrying that work forward and serving our community as Mayor.

Accountability and transparency.
Following yesterdays CBC mayoral debate (available below or on Youtube), Dylan Kruger and Vote One Deltashared information about Melissa Granum based on a 2020 news article.
So we did what we believe anyone running for public office should do: we did our research and went back to the source.
And we found that the quote shared by One Delta was only a portion of the original quote. The omitted portion provided important context and changed the impression created by the snippet that was shared.
Our Public Relations representative pointed this out in the comments, with the original article for anyone who wanted to check the facts for themselves.
That comment has since been deleted from the One Delta Facebook post.
We’re not asking anyone to take our word for it. We’re asking people to look at the original source, read the full quote and make up their own minds.
Because this is an election. People deserve the full picture, not carefully selected snippets.
And if we’re talking about accountability and transparency, that should apply to how we communicate with the public, too.
The facts shouldn’t be hidden because they’re inconvenient.

Some people are asking where Melissa Granum for Mayor and Delta First stand on the Beedie long-term care facility.
The answer isn't something we came up with four weeks before an election.
Go back to March 29.
Months before signs went up. Months before debates. Months before campaign season really got going, Melissa and Jat Puri - Delta City Council Candidate were standing in this very spot talking about the importance of standing up for Delta's healthcare services and the people who rely on them.
That's what authenticity looks like.
It's not showing up when it's politically convenient. It's showing up because you care about your community.
Thirty years ago, Melissa stood with others to fight for Delta Hospital. And on March 29, she was still talking about the same thing: the importance of speaking up, asking questions and standing with the people of Delta.
Our record isn't four weeks old.
We've been showing up.
And we have the receipts.

From the beginning, Delta First has been about three things: affordability, liveability and accountability.
Those weren’t words we came up with because an election was coming. They were part of the conversation from the very first days of this campaign.
Then we spent 9.5 months listening.
At doors. At events. In neighbourhoods. In conversations with people right across Delta.
And what we heard shaped our platform.
You told us you want a City Hall that listens.
So we’re saying exactly what we’ll do about it.
Restore question period. Bring back Citizen Advisory Committees. Strengthen accountability at Council. Make financial information clearer and more accessible.
And that's just one piece of a much bigger plan.
What we heard. What we’ll do.
Our platform lays out the commitments. Our First 90 Days plan lays out where we’ll start.
And if there’s one thing we hope you’ve learned about us over these past 9.5 months, it’s that we mean what we say.
This is Delta First. It has been from day one.

Tonight, Tammy Hansen, Jat Puri and Alex Fischer joined fellow Council candidates for an all-candidates debate in North Delta.
We didn’t capture their opening comments, but we did capture something that said a lot.
When it came time for the candidates to introduce themselves, Tammy, Jat and Alex were the only Council candidates who stood up.
And then came their closing remarks, which told you exactly who they are and what they’ll bring to the Council table.
They are there to listen. To ask questions. To represent the people who live and work in Delta.
And most importantly, to stand up for you.
That’s who Delta First has been from the beginning. A grassroots team that believes residents and business owners deserve to be heard, respected and represented.
When Tammy, Jat and Alex are elected, they won’t stop standing up.
They’ll stand up for you at Council.
They’ll stand up for your neighbourhood.
They’ll stand up for the businesses that make our communities what they are.
Tomorrow night, the Mayoral candidates take the stage.

This is Melissa Granum for Mayor back on April 12, talking about why this campaign needed to be different.
A grassroots effort.
A real conversation with the people of Delta.
A belief that democracy works best when people are part of it.
And a campaign built without a big political machine behind it.
Months later, that's still exactly who we are.
We didn't build this campaign around what would be convenient to say in the final weeks. We built it by listening, having conversations, showing up and putting what we heard into a plan.
April 12. Same values. Same approach. Same commitment.
Those same values, approach and commitment won't change on October 18.
