At Kindred House, care does not begin by asking someone to prove they are ready to change. It begins with something simpler, and much more powerful:

Kindness.
Respect.
Choices.
Support without judgment.

Being treated respectfully cannot undo everything that has happened, but it can create moments of safety. A reason to return. A place where trust can begin.

PRIVACY IS PART OF DIGNITY

People should not have to explain the most painful parts of their lives over and over again just to receive care.

Coordination between healthcare, housing, and community services can be essential. So is privacy, dignity, and the right to seek help without judgment.

At Kindred House, a person’s story belongs to them. They decide what they are ready to share, when they are ready to share it and with whom because trust grows when people know their information will be treated carefully.

Support should not require someone to reveal everything, defend every decision, or demonstrate that their needs are worthy.

Sometimes feeling safe enough not to speak is what eventually makes speaking possible.

There is a wall a Kindred House that holds the faces of women who were known here.
Women who laughed, loved, struggled, survived and mattered.
Women who are missed.

We have intentionally obscured their images because remembrance does not require us to surrender their privacy.

This wall is not here to turn lives into lessons or loss into content.
It is here because grief needs somewhere to live.
It reminds the Kindred House team that every relationship leaves something behind. That every person was more than the circumstances the world may have used to define her.

Some people remain part of a place long after they have left it.
They are remembered not only for how they died, but for how they lived, loved and changed those who were fortunate enough to know them.

Survival is often misread.
Hypervigilance is called hostility.
Hesitation is interpreted as resistance.
A missed appointment is seen as a lack of commitment.
Leaving is treated as a failure.

Trauma affects attention, memory, trust, and the ability to make decisions. When someone has repeatedly experienced danger, accepting help can feel complicated, even when that help is offered with the best of intentions.

At Kindred House, readiness is not anticipated.

People may step away, but they can return.
They can begin again without being punished for how they survived in between.
Progress does not become possible because someone is pressured. It becomes possible when support remains consistent enough to be trusted.

A persistent toothache can make it difficult to eat, rest, concentrate or connect with others. At the same time, mental health challenges can make it harder to maintain oral health or access dental care. Each can influence the other.

At Radius, we understand that oral health is part of whole-person health. By bringing dental, primary and mental healthcare together under one integrated model, we help people access more connected, compassionate care.

For all of us, a toothache can make it difficult to eat, sleep, work, concentrate, or simply get through our day.

For Edmontonians experiencing homelessness, living with disabilities, mental illness or other forms of marginalization dental care isn’t as simple as booking an appointment.

At Radius, we believe everyone deserves access to dental care that is affordable, respectful, and responsive to their individual needs.

Our Dental Clinic provides low-fee, trauma-informed, barrier-reduced care in an environment where people are treated with dignity and compassion. We take the time to explain each step, move at a comfortable pace and help people feel supported throughout their visit because no one should have to live with dental pain simply because they do not know where to turn.

When someone is focused on finding a safe place to sleep, securing their next meal or managing an urgent health concern, dental care may have to wait. A missed appointment does not tell us how much someone values their health; it often reflects the barriers they are navigating.

At Radius Dental Clinic, we recognize the realities that can make accessing care difficult. By reducing practical barriers and providing compassionate, trauma-informed care, we help make it easier for people to return when they are ready.
