I’ve been chipping away at the BMW R100 final drive modifications, and to my surprise, I found a green PLA spool dated back to 2019 that came with the very first 3D printer I ever purchased…

I’ve never printed anything in green before, but for some quick-and-dirty testing, it has done a surprisingly good job😄

The output shaft still needs some refinement, and I’ll be mounting everything onto the bike for test-fit purposes, but I believe this setup is going to work.
•
More details will follow as I print a custom rear wheel hub to complement the modified final drive assembly.😎🤙🏼

When relocating rearsets to your preferred position, you may choose to use existing holes or mounting points on the frame…

The rear frame mounts, which are designed to support the silencers and subframe, also feature an additional mounting hole.
•
If you mount a flat bracket or spacer directly against this surface, you may notice that the footrests shift forward as the hardware is tightened.
•
The primary reason for this is the lack of support at the front and lower portion of the spacer.
•
The mounting holes in the frame are stamped very close to a raised feature, which means you must either weld on a dedicated boss to support a flat spacer or design a custom-shaped spacer to suit the contour.
•
The best solution depends on whether you are comfortable modifying the frame or would rather create a custom component.
•
I wanted to share this as an example of how an unconventional shape can require a unique solution. I’m sure there are other approaches and modifications that could achieve the same result, and I’d be interested to see how others have solved this challenge.

The BMW Airhead 5-speed gearbox cover sets have also been highly requested, as these assemblies are commonly serviced and restored by enthusiasts.

For this application, I designed a dedicated cover set focused on protecting an assembled 5-speed gearbox during cleaning, blasting, or painting processes.
•
The covers and plugs help hinder abrasive material and contaminants from entering vital areas of the gearbox through the use of numerous integrated sealing features.
•
While this set is intended for BMW 5-speed gearboxes, I also accounted for the variations in castings, tolerances, and design differences between models to ensure proper sealing and protection across multiple versions.
•
Your feedback throughout this process has been extremely valuable and I’ve applied changes to this set.
•
I would love to offer most kits in blue, but it would become increasingly difficult over time to distinguish the different sets. Not only during in-house production, but also while using them in the workshop.
•
Because of that, this gearbox cover set will be released next week in the color Grey, helping establish a clearer color language and reducing the chance of it being mistaken for another kit in your toolbox.

The BMW R100 MONO final drive cover set is now available with a full range of plugs and covers that allow the assembly to be cleaned in the disassembled state or assembled state.

From protecting machined surfaces, to the installed seals, this cover set will allow for flexibility when taking on a deep-clean, a blasting service or even a full on restoration of the final drive.

Twelve parts feature a seal to keep debris and harsh abrasives out of the final drive and away from precision surfaces. This kit is available on my website with 10 pre-made sets available ready to ship.
