Documenting abuse can help preserve important information, identify patterns over time, and support a survivor if they choose to pursue legal action or seek help from professionals.

A recently updated resource from DomesticShelters.org highlights smartphone tools that may help survivors safely record incidents, store evidence, document timelines, assess risk, and connect with trusted supports.

The article includes options such as VictimsVoice, EviSafe, Olive Notes, myPlan, and other recording tools, along with information about how each one works.

Documenting abuse is not always safe, especially if a device may be monitored or if recording an incident could increase risk. Every situation is different, and survivors are best positioned to decide what feels safest for them.
