Day one of the inaugural North American Games Industry Summit is in the books! 🎮

What stood out most today was the mix of people, ideas, and experiences coming together under one roof.

Here's a look back at day one:

🎤 Mayor Andrew Knack, Berkley Egenes from Xsolla, and Ronnie welcomed attendees to the first-ever NAGIS.

🎬 Luke joined Berkley Egenes, YDB, Toni Domenech, and Dylan Pearce from Northern Gateway Films for a conversation about the growing connections between film and games and the opportunities that come with bringing stories to life across mediums.

🎮 Trailhead and Summit Push teams hit the floor for Indie Discovery, sharing their games with players, publishers, investors, and fellow developers.

🕹️ Atari co-founder Nolan Bushnell reflected on the origins of the video game industry and where it's headed next.

🎙️ The day closed with a reunion featuring Casey Hudson, Trent Oster, Gregory Zeschuk, and Mark Darrah, moderated by Mark Meer, exploring the culture and lessons behind some of BioWare's most beloved RPGs.

If you're a filmmaker in Northern Alberta with a story ready to tell, here's your opportunity. 🎬

We are now accepting short film proposals through our Greenlight Alberta program. Selected producers and directors can receive up to $50,000 to produce a scripted or documentary short film. Your production also becomes a paid training ground for local crew entering the industry through Greenlight Alberta.

A few things to know before you apply:
🎥 Applicants must be based in Northern Alberta and serve as the Producer or Director
🎥 Projects must be scripted or documentary short films. Student films, music videos, commercials, and corporate videos are not eligible
🎥 Selected projects must be completed by end of 2026

Applications are open June 15 - July 5.

Min Sook Lee is one of Canada's most acclaimed documentary filmmakers. With a body of work that includes Tiger Spirit, Hogtown: The Politics of Policing, The Real Inglorious Bastards, and Migrant Dreams, Min Sook has shared the voices of people often not heard in Canada. Her latest feature, There Are No Words, premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, where it received an Honourable Mention for Best Canadian Feature, and later won Best Documentary at the Toronto International Reel Asian Film Festival.

Drawing on decades of experience creating impactful documentaries that engage audiences and spark conversation, Min Sook will share insights from her filmmaking journey, discuss the evolving landscape of documentary storytelling, and her strategy in finding and refining her audience.

🏆 Crip Trip - Episode #3: Trippin' Through the Prairies won the Best Lifestyle film award
🏆 David Baron won Outstanding Colour Grading for his work on Making Beauty

Huge congratulations to these local creators for their exceptional work and earning recognition on a national stage.

🎙️ Film Commissioner Dorian Rowe was a panelist for Stronger Together: Cracking the Code on Interprovincial Coproduction, a discussion highlighting what's keeping Canadian producers from working across provincial borders and what it's going to take to fix it. Joining the discussion were Erin Dean (Creative Saskatchewan), Lynne Skromeda (Manitoba Film & Music), Huw Eirug (Nunavut Film), and Andrew Williamson (Telefilm Canada), moderated by Robert Hardy (ScreenSask).
